Kolkata/Hyderabad, July 28 (IBNS): Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC), one of India’s premier institutes for management, released a business case study in collaboration with Mytrah Energy, an independent power producer in renewable energy with the largest wind bank data in India.

The study developed through detailed interviews with the leadership team at Mytrah Energy is set in the background of the renewable energy market in India and its existing challenges. The case study captures critical business decisions taken by  Ravi Kailas, founder of Mytrah Energy and also outlines the company’s journey from its inception to its emergence as a dominant player in the business.

Several aspects such as the processes deployed by the company’s founders to select the wind sector as their focus area, the initial fund raising process, the challenges faced in this effort and methods used to resolve them and steps taken to diversify have been discussed at length in the case-study.

Speaking on the collaboration, Vikram Kailas, MD, Mytrah Energy, said, “As part of our on-going engagement with academia in India and abroad, I am delighted to have IIM Calcutta on board with us for this business case study which effectively maps Mytrah’s journey from being a start-up in a fifteen-year old industry to its present avatar of being a dominant industry player. Today we have achieved excellent operational momentum in both wind and solar which has developed Mytrah into a well-diversified renewable energy business. The case study offers a stimulating business case scenario for the student fraternity to study and analyse the way forward for the company amid a transitory industry landscape.”

Commenting on the initiative by IIM Calcutta,  Indranil Bose, Professor of Management Information Systems & Coordinator of IIM Calcutta Case Research Center who supervised the case study said “We have been focusing on building a repository of India focused cases that sees high acceptance among students in our postgraduate and executive programs. Mytrah Energy is a phenomenal company that disrupted the Indian wind energy market and created a respectable space for itself through innovation, smart financing, flawless execution and effective leadership. The case conveys striking lessons in entrepreneurship in the infrastructure sector of India that will be of global interest. We are in discussion with international case repositories for distribution of our case studies and are documenting Mytrah’s endeavors in the Indian solar energy sector through another case study that is going to be released soon.”
