Many students in our nation inspire to be a part of the technical world and pursue B. Tech as a career option. They tend to give many entrance examinations for various institutes that offer graduation in technology across the country. However, we do have few classified and reputed institutes which are considered to be in the top list for B. Tech persuasion and they are Delhi Technological University, Birla Institute of Technology in Pilani, Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) located in Chennai, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad, and Anna University, Chennai.

  • Delhi Technological University (DTU), formerly it known as Delhi college of Engineering. Since 1941 DTU has been awarding technical expertise and helping the country to get some of the best Engineers. It tops the charts and is time and again termed as the best college which provides quality and innovation driven education in India.

The University offers courses towards Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.), Bachelor of Technology (B-Tech), Master of Engineering (M.E.), Master of Science (M.Sc.), Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) and Master of Business Administration (M.B.A) and contains 12 academic departments with a strong emphasis on scientific and technological education and research

 Students who wish to seek admission in DTU need to qualify JEE examination. After which they have to register for a centralized counselling process. Admission in 85% state quota, as well as 15% outside Delhi Quota, is offered base on JEE Ranks only.

Every year combined counseling is conducted through Joint Admission Counseling (JAC Delhi) for the following: Delhi Technological University (DTU), Indira Gandhi Delhi Technological University for Women (IGDTUW), Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi (IIT-D) and Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (NSIT)

Computer Engineering (COE) 5. Electronics & Communications Engineering (ECE) 6. Electrical Engineering (EE) 7. Environmental Engineering (ENE) 8. Engineering Physics (EP) 9. Information Technology (IT) 10. Mathematics and Computing (MCE) 11. Mechanical Engineering (ME) 12. Polymer Science & Chemical Tech (PCT) 13. Production & Industrial Engineering (PIE) 14. Software Engineering (SE).

  • There is another University that draws a lot of attention for their academic excellence which is Birla Institute of Technology Pilani, commonly known as BITS is a deemed University. It has a huge campus of 200 acres. It was established under Birla Education Trust in the year 1929. Initially, it was an intermediate college which became a degree college and later it also started offering postgraduate courses as well.

Admissions to this top ranked Institution for engineering is based on merit. An all- India computerized test called BITSAT (Birla Institute of Technology Admission Test) needs to be attempted to get admissions. The exam tests the knowledge, reasoning, analytical and logical reasoning, physics, chemistry, and mathematics and is based on higher education curriculum in India for all the mentioned subjects.

Basic eligibility that is needed to attempt the examination is that they must have scored 75% marks in physics, chemistry and mathematics with a minimum grade of 60% in each subject in 10+2 board examination. In Pilani campus, the streams in which engineering could be done are mechanical, manufacturing, civil, electrical and electronics engineering, electronics and instrumentation engineering, chemical and computer science. Moreover, a lot of company’s visit BITS campus for placements as they could be hiring many bright brains of the nation. So, the placement is 100% provided all the semesters must be clear.

  • The institution that is in the fourth position in the top 5 technological universities in India is considered to be Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) located in Chennai. It is a reputed private university founded in 1984 as Vellore Engineering college. It offers B. Tech. in several branches for undergraduate students.

Students are required to crack Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE) which is conducted by VIT authorities. This is an online examination and the exam pattern resembles AIEEE and JEE examination. Once student manages to get in the merit list, they shall be offered admissions by the Institution.

Students can opt from various field of engineering in VIT like Bio Technology, Bio-Medical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering , Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering. Also, if a student passes all the semesters of B. Tech. will be eligible for placements in the campus drive. A lot of companies visit the campus to hire students from there. The placement is recorded to be 100% by the institution.

  • Now, talking about the very last college in the list which is Anna University, Chennai. It is one of the most famous technical colleges in the Southern part of India. The University was established by the government of Tamil Nadu on September 4, 1978. Since then, a lot of amendments were made. Tamil Nadu government made a decision in 2001 that the university shall be split into six constituent universities and those are Anna University, Chennai, Anna University of Technology, Chennai, Anna University of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, Anna University of Technology, Coimbatore, Anna University of Technology Tirunelveli and Anna University of Technology, Madurai. Later, in 2011 and 2012, it was merged again to be a single affiliated University, back to Anna University.

Students must have scored more than 75% in 10+2 examination which should be affiliated from a recognized board and 60% individually in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics to get admissions in Anna University. Moreover, to get well placed, students must have passed all the semesters without any backlogs or else they might face some problems to get a job. The overall placements are more than 90%.

  • Another reputed institute that falls under the top five technological universities in India is JNTUH (Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University). This university too offers technical education in various streams for undergraduate and post graduate students. It was established in the year 1965 as the Nagarjuna Sagar Engineering College and later, it was established as a university in 1972 as Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University.

Basic eligibility criteria required by students seeking admissions in Bachelors of Technology is that they should have passed 10+2 in science discipline from a recognized board, with a minimum of 50% marks. Admissions would be granted in JNTUH on the basis of merit and rank in EAMCET/GATE/ICET. If marks and rank are not at par with the University’s expectations, and candidate has still applied, candidature might get canceled at any point.

There are altogether 21 streams, the university offers engineering in, which includes fields related to computers, electronics, mechanical, civil, petroleum, agriculture and suchlike. Once, students successfully complete 4 years of their technical graduation successfully from JNTUH, they are offered jobs in various companies that comes for campus drive in their institution.
