Cycle Heritage Quiz 2014 returns to Kolkata

Kolkata, Sept 8 (IBNS) 'Cycle Heritage Quiz', presented by Cycle Pure Agarbathies, the world's largest incense stick brand, has returned to Kolkata with its 4th edition at the Kalamandir Hall.

Cycle Heritage Quiz focuses solely on the Heritage of India.

Noted actors Abir Chatterjee and Bidipta Chakraborty graced the event as the Guests of Honour, while popular television personality Mir enthralled the audience as the Quiz Master.

Students of class VIII to class X forming over 370 teams from around 65 schools in the city participated in the preliminary round of the competition. Amongst them, only 6 teams made it to the final.

All the questions of the quiz were related to the heritage of India including, epics, mythology, origins of festivals and traditions and more. The awards were given away to contestants who had the most prolific knowledge on India's rich art forms, culture, tradition and history.

Abir Chatterjee, commented on the occasion, "  I am happy to be a part of this unique initiative. I would like to wish the students and the team of Cycle Pure Agarbathies the very best of luck so that they can carry forward this novel endeavour."

The Quizzing contest was initiated in 2011 with an objective to encourage young minds to battle their brains and at the same time learn more about our country's rich art forms, culture, tradition and history.

In Addition to Trophies and Certificates 1st, 2nd & 3rd prize winners were rewarded with iPad Mini, HCL Me Tab, Fast Track Wrist Watch respectively.

Speaking on the occasion,  Arjun Ranga, Managing Partner, Cycle Pure Agarbathies, said "In this era of globalization, where our young generation is moving faster in a forward direction and are adapting to other cultures, the Cycle Heritage Quiz is an initiative to bring them face to face with India’s rich tradition and heritage. We started this journey in Kolkata in 2011 and are overwhelmed with the response we have got from the students over the years. We wish to carry this initiative further on and make it bigger and a grander success”.

Following the success of its first edition in Kolkata, the Cycle Heritage Quiz has become an annual event and is now conducted in other cities also like Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Bangalore, Coimbatore, Kochi, Mysore, Indore and Ahmedabad making it a national affair. This year, CHQ entered North East India with Guwahati for the first time.

Cycle Pure Agarbathies believes in preserving India’s cultures and traditions. It tries to revive lost arts and has organized several interesting campaigns that work towards preserving Indian traditions, and culture. Such as the RHYTHM Dhaker Ladai in Kolkata, which is an effort to preserve and uplift the dying art of Dhak. And Sheri Garba-in Gujrat, to resurrect the original style of Garba, now crushed under cross commercialization of present day Garba.

Through the Cycle Heritage Quiz, Cycle aims to restore the countries diminishing art, values and culture. The quiz will have questions on several themes like Heritage monuments, epics, Mythology, Origin of Festivals and Traditions and more.

The Six Finalist Teams were: Modern High School for Girls; St. Thomas’s Boys School; Lakshmipat Singhania Academy; Ramkrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Narendrapur; The Scottish Church Collegiate School and Jadavpur Vidyapith.

The winners of the Cycle Heritage Quiz - Kolkata 2014 are as listed below:
