LESSONS ONE CAN LEARN WHILE ON A TRIP INTO THE WOODS

India Blooms News Service | @indiablooms | 03 Apr 2018, 05:12 pm

When your life becomes monotonous, when you lack energy and the impetus to get on with your daily work, that’s when you need a respite and go on a break. Imagine how intriguing it feels if your break includes an adventure, quest for wildlifewhile witnessing the peace of flowing water.

It is rightly said that difficulties always let you grow. Coming out of your comfort zone for once and experiencing life in the woods would fetch you with life- time lessons to learn and evolve.

Let me share some of those...

1. KEEP IT SIMPLE

We all have a tendency to carry everything we need to survive when we go on camping. You may have to travel by a boat, hike or walk continuously in the woods straining your every nerve. Carrying what is essential in a knapsack would make things easier for you. Sometimes, you just have to plan and everything falls into place!!

Few must haves on your trip:

• Carry right footwear. If you plan to go on a long trip that includes strenuous efforts then purchase hiking boots else tennis shoes are a right choice.

• Carry right size bag- If your trip is for 3-5 nights 50-60 Litres backpacks would suffice which consists extra compartments to carry accessories like camera, books, maps, torch etc. If it’s just a weekend trip then 35 litre capacity bags can make things light. They are easily available online with attractive discount on bags of different capacities to make your trip budget-friendly.

• Appropriate camping tent: This is the place where you should invest your money to have a good night’s sleep.

• Carry enough light: we mostly rely on our mobile’s flashlight but out in the woods you need to be careful with an alternative in hand. Carry adequate torch lights with you to help yourself in the dark woods.

2.  YOU LEARN TO APPRECIATE YOUR LIFE

Connecting with nature is undoubtedly a cherishing experience, but we are not used to live with almost no amenities and putting ourselves at risks. From setting up your own camping tent to living a life of uncertainty and fear in the woods will make you realize how fortunate you are to have acquired such a comfortable life when you get back home.

3. COMPASSION IS ALSO FOUND IN ISOLATION

If you think you are alone camping in the unpredictable woods, you are wrong. No matter how careful you are,you are bound to face one or the other problem in this trip. You may have to face a wild creature; you may get hurt in the most incredible way possible while hiking or you might have a fear of crossing water bodies. Whatever the problem is, people come in support of each other which make relationships grow.

4. BE THANKFUL

It is said we never know the value of something until it’s lost. Do we ever value the food we eat? How much food do we waste or throw away on daily basis? Hiking for hours, setting up your own tent and exhausting yourself in every way possible will make you crave for food however undercooked or insipid it is. It is not surprising if you run out of your food and are compelled to cook by yourself or wander in the forest in search of food. Making your way through all this would only make you realize the value of food and you will revere it for the rest of your life.

5. YOU BECOME BRAVE AND FEARLESS

If you are alone in this journey and you have nobody but yourself to take care of your survival, after few days of your stay in the woods there is a strong possibility of you falling ill as you stain your body more than it is used to. You will realize that you can withstand more than you ever thought. You will learn to provide yourself with basic first aid in case of any injuries. There are no luxurious bathrooms in a forest and sometimes all you have to do is to take a dip into the river nearby to cope with the scorching heat being oblivious to the risk associated.

Facing all these odds will make you brave and fearless. Isolating yourself from the social media without any connectivity with your loved ones will help you know that you are strong enough alone.

6. YOU CHANGE THE WAY YOU LIVE

Once you go back to your mundane life, you develop a wider perspective towards viewing a problem that strikes you. After facing all these challenges, you learn to worry less and think more. After all, there is no problem without a solution attached. You learn to appreciate little things in life. Having experienced the serenity of nature, you will feel charged up to continue with your daily activities with new innovative thoughts cropping up in the mind.
