NIIT launches GET to help graduates choose new age career programs

Kolkata, Oct 30 (IBNS): Global Talent Development Corporation NIIT on Thursday launched the Graduate Employability Test (GET)-to enable graduates choose a career that matches with their abilities and interests .
‘GET 2014’ will be conducted by NIIT nationwide, on Nov 16.
 
The application forms for the test are available at NIIT centers across the country. 
 
Graduates as well as final year graduating students can register for the NIIT GET by filling the GET Application form. Students can also log on to www.niit.com/get to apply online and get more details. The last date to apply for the test is November 15, 2014.
 
Speaking on the occasion, Shivan Bhargava, Group President-Skills & Careers Group, NIIT Ltd, said, “NIIT’s Graduate Employability Test will enable students to judge their aptitude and capabilities and accordingly  focus on new age career options. The test will help graduates to choose from over 800 new age career options available in the emerging job market."
 
GET test takers can get scholarships up to 35% based on their merit. Every student undergoing the test will receive a personalized graduate employability score-card. 
 
Candidates will also be entitled for an individualised career consultation from industry experts. NIIT will also provide placement assistance on post graduates and diploma programs.
 
According to the third edition of the National Employability Report called Engineering Graduates - 2014, released by Aspiring Minds Assessment Private Limited is an Indian employability evaluation and certification company, less than one out of four engineering graduates are employable. 
 
Of the 1.2 lakh candidates surveyed across multiple states, 91.82% lack programming and algorithm skills, 71.23% lack soft and cognitive skills, 60% lack domain skills, 73.63% lack English speaking and comprehension skills and 57.96% have poor analytical and quantitative skills. 
 
Of the 6 lakh engineers that graduate annually, only 18.43% are employable for the software engineer-IT services role, while just 3.95% are appropriately trained to be directly deployed on projects. For core jobs in mechanical, electronics/electrical and civil jobs, only a mere 7.49% are employable.
