Coronavirus lockdown: Manipur launches E-Textbooks for class 8-10 students

Guwahati/IBNS: The Manipur government has launched E-Texbooks for Class 8-10 students of the state while the centre extended nationwide lockdown till May 3.

Manipur Education Minister Dr. Thokchom Radheshyam on Thursday launched E-Textbooks for Class 8-10 at his Office Chamber at New Secretariat in Imphal.

The Minister expressed that making the textbooks available in electronic format is one of the many initiatives to address the shortcomings and problems due to the prevailing situation in education because of the nationwide lockdown.

He stated that all the e-textbooks for Classes 1-10, totalling to 71 books, will be uploaded soon.

He added it will take around 2 weeks for uploading the entire books.

Books of Tribal dialects too will be uploaded subsequently.

Dr. Thokchom Radheshyam said the whole world is affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and the disease has impacted the education sector as well.

Education is regarded as one of the most important sectors as it nurtures and nourishes the young minds for a better future.         

“Once the textbooks are made available in electronic format, he opined that it will help in developing e-contents as study material by various stakeholders. The textbooks will be easily accessible to the students and teachers at times of crisis like present Covid-19, too. In addition, this will give provision for the improvement of textbooks by seeking comments from the public. It will also become the source of early printings of textbooks in times to come,” the Manipur Education Minister said.

He lauded the officials for their hard work and said that the program of e- textbooks is taken up by the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM).

BOSEM does the printing and sale of Textbooks for Class 1-10.

Books meant for class 1-8 are prepared by SCERT and the printing; sale takes place in BOSEM, while Books for Class 9-10 are within the domain of BOSEM.

He also informed that the textbooks will be available at bosemebook.in website. The textbooks can also be accessed through mobile application “Bosem eBook” and can be downloaded from Google Play store.

In addition the webpage will have other features as such year-wise Instruction to examiners, Blue print, Teachers guide book and scan copies of answer scripts of toppers and subject toppers. The website and the mobile application were designed and developed by X-tremeWave.

Commissioner Education (S) T. Ranjit Singh, Director Education (S) Th. Kirankumar Singh, Secretary, BSEM, Dr. Chithung Mary Thomas and other officials were also present during the launching programme.
