WB Governor reminds students they must come back to serve country even if they go abroad for studies

Kolkata, Sep 18 (IBNS): Governor of West Bengal, Keshari Nath Tripathi, said he was happy to hand over the certificates to students as part of the annual Mamraj Agarwal Rashtriya Purashkar and also appreciated the family of Mamraj Agarwal in their effort to continue with the various good work that the late social worker had initiated.

In its 21st year, the annual Mamraj Agarwal Rashtriya Purashkar was held at Raj Bhavan, in Kolkata, recently to felicitate students who were rank holders in vMadhyamik, Higher Secondary, ICSE,and  ISC examinations in 2018 in West Bengal as well as those who secured highest Marks in MBBS, LLB, M.Sc and CA.

Also present were West Bengal government ministers -- Subrata Mukherjee, Panchayat & Rural Development and Water Resource & Development and  Firhad Hakim, Urban Development & Municipal Affairs; Justice Shyamal Kumar Sen, former Governor of West Bengal and former Chief Justice Allahabad High Court; Sajan Kumar Bansal, eminent social worker and industrialist; and president of Mamraj Agarwal Foundation, Brahmanand Agarwal.

Certificate of Appreciation was awarded to 99 students. A cash prize of Rs 11, 000 was given to the toppers and Rs 5,000 to others.

Said Goernor Tripathi, “This is the fifth time i am giving these awards to students, I feel extremely happy to meet such talented young kids. I have seen how Mamrajji despite all the troubles have done so much for the betterment of society, I feel very happy that after his death his family has been successfully doing what was so dear to Mamrajji that is social work." 

Congratulating the award winners, the Governor said, "I congratulate you all and wish that even if you go out of this country to study, you should come back serve your own nation.” 

Brahmanand Agarwal, son of late Mamraj Agarwal and is also president of the foundation, talked about his father’s contribution and the purpose of this award.

He said, “My father strongly believed that everyone is equal and should receive basic things like water, food, shelter, education. The foundation works accordingl, keeping these ideals in mind; we organize free health camps, provide water tanks and promote low cost education. This award is to encourage the students to keep up their good work and also work towards the society they live in.”

Late Mamraj Agarwal was awarded the Padma Shree in 2011 for his contribution in the field of social work.
