Kolkata-based Acropolis Mall holding exhibition of rakhis made from recycled products

Kolkata, Aug 14 (IBNS): Real estate firm Merlin Group and Acropolis Mall, on Tuesday, inaugurated their 'Joy of Giving' Initiative by donating old clothes, as part of their corporate social responsibility programme and also an exhibition of rakhis made from recycled products.

The 'Donate Your Cloth' drive at the Kolkata-based Mall was organised in collaboration with Kolkata Society For Cultural Heritage (KSCH), a social enterprise.

Pather Sathi, a non-government organisation, was the implementation partner.

The Merlin group also collaborated with KSCH and State Urban Development Agency to hold an exhibition of rakhis till August 15  at the Acropolis Mall.

The rakhis have been designed and made by self help groups of women, using recycled products only.

K Vijayan, GM, Acropolis Mall, handed over the old clothes to Sourav Mukherjee, Founder Director of KSCH and Sadhana Saha, founder member, Pather Sathi.

Shyamal Juin , HR Manager, Merlin Group was also present.

KSCH will segregate good quality clothes and the clothes will be donated to Pather Sathi who will in turn present it to the people in need in adjoining area of Anandapur.

Rest of the products will be pick up by KSCH which will be used to produce upcycled items by the marginalised women.

KSCH plans to start a skill training programme to produce recycle and upcycle the solid waste to empower marginalised section of the society.

Saket Mohta, Managing Director, Merlin Group, said, The 'Be a Friend in Need' drive is a part of our corporate social responsibility initiative  and has two pronged purposes. Good clothes will bring cheer to the faces of less privileged section of the society. Secondly, our drive will also help protect environment from waste as the torn clothes will be used to produce upcycled items by the marginalized women thus contributing to their empowerment.”
