Kolkata: Monkey Bar, a popular multi-city gastropub, is ringing in the festive season with a special spread, which aims to turn the lights on the Anglo-Indian community, a community which played a significant role in building India.

Named ‘Jolly Good Fellows’, the event will run from December 16, 2019 to January 5, 2020, across Kolkata, Mumbai and Delhi.

Dig into a delicious menu of small plates, inspired by food cooked in Anglo- Indian homes across the country, coupled with cocktails, music, and dance.

From Panthras and Mother-in- law’s Chutney to Mama’s Mad B**f Pepper Fry and cocktails like Shaken Bacon and Brandy Bugger,  ‘Jolly Good Fellows’ promises a festive feast starring the gastropub’s take on the gems from Bombils to Ball Curry.

So, begin your festivities with wine drinking, carol singing, a Christmas Eve repast and ending of course with a New Year’s Eve Bash.

Begin with the very simple Maka Pao De, bread and butter with a Portuguese twist; staple Anglo-Indian ingredients  on a kulcha, with spicy and sour Goan ambot butter.

Or dig into the hearty Panthra’s & Mother-In-Law’s Chutney; a go-to dish for the robust Anglo-Indian community of Kolkata.

This delicious composition of Panko Fried Crepes, filled with chicken mince is paired with spicy devil’s chutney and has many interpretations across Kolkata homes.

Or order Some Bombils Men, Maharashtrian cuisine inspired, green masala marinated, semolina-coated and pan-seared Bombay Duck served with mint chutney.

Go for the banging Ball Curry and Pao–this Sunday special is a slow-cooked mutton meatball curry, served with buttered pao and prawn balchao butter.

For a sumptuous feast, dig into the Mama’s Mad B**f Pepper Fry, made with home-made garam masala, black pepper and generous sprinkles of toasted coconut.

For a sweet finale to your evening, there’s Pain Perdu Toast, a French inspired dessert with an Anglo-Indian persona added by an almond cream and gulkand topping.

And for some jolly good cheer, there are two new festive cocktails.

Enjoy the Shaken Bacon, a concoction of bacon and booze with Jameson Irish whiskey, maple syrup and a bacon wash topped with a garnish of crisp bacon; and another cocktail straight out of the Goan beaches -Brandy Bugger- a mix of brandy, orange, lime and peach. It’s the run-up to Christmas and New Year so you can expect loads of greatactivitiesthat we’ve planned for you at Monkey Bar.
