Fashion world success is not easy route: Sharbari Datta
Kolkata, July 26 (IBNS) Fashion designer Sharbari Datta, who in the past decades had set a trend in menswear fusing different art traditions thus breaking away from masculine dress code set by the West, says it is not easy to make a mark in the field outwardly cloaked with the euphoria of glamour.
In a message for young, wannabe fashion stylers, celebrated fashion designer Sharbari Dutta says they must be aware that it is not solely about glamour.
"I am positive about formal training to make a mark in fashion segment despite the fact that many successful fashion designers including yours truly did not attend any fashion institute. But many young boys and girls can only see the dynamic and glamour sides of fashion. It involves sweat, blood and tear," Sarbari, having been credited to effect a turnaround in men's apparel design in Bengal, told IBNS.
She was talking on the sidelines of the INIFD 'ELIXIR 2015' at Swissotel where students showcased their wacky creations based on jute and linen.
"It's not an easy route. You have to acquire skill and knack in multiple things including textile designing," she said.
Sharbari, who watched closely how Indian men's fashion evolved since 1991, said, "Look how the men's apparel concept has changed. You can see that in parties. A far cry from the monotony decades back."
"And most possibly I have a role in this changeover tapping many things lying hidden in men'swear cuts and designs," she said.
Young fashion designer Abhishek Dutta, a known name in fashion shows countrywide, said street fashion now turned out to be the 'in' thing for any new fashion design curriculum.
Street fashion, which is all about evolving and creating own style through mix and match, is more individualistic and prone to seasonal colour changes, Abhishek said.
Abhishek, who will be rolling out his new creations in men's wear in the premier fashion show in Bangaluru early next month, will sum up summer jackets, slim fit pants as the ideal contemporary men's wear and cropped jacket bathed in blue, grape and coral painting for women this season.
Matteo Lambert, Vice-President R&D, India operations, of an MNC attended the show where actor-model Parijat Chakraborty sizzled the ramp.
