Designer Ratna Lahiri launches flagship store in Kolkata
Kolkata, July 4 (IBNS): Fusion wear designer Ratna Lahiri on Friday launched her flagship store 'The Upper Shelf' in Kolkata to showcase her range of clothing line.
Tollywood actress June Maliah was present during the unveiling of the store.
The collection was described by Ratna as, “an exceptional concoction of tradition and modernism, conceptualized for the contemporary Indian woman, who is a globe trotter and yet closely connected to her roots.”
The store comes with a collection ranging from classic kurtas, indo western tunics, dresses, sarees and dupattas, all with a fusion look.
“One has to be an original and very natural, yet should be able to take inspirations from day to-day facets of life and activities happening around us. One has to keep in mind his or her clients on one hand, the wearability on the other and at the same time should create ensembles which are aesthetic and justifies the word ‘Designer Look’”, said Ratna Lahiri after the launch.
Her ‘signature style’ is “Urban Ethnic Wear” where she combines Indian indigenous textiles, embroideries and printing techniques with contemporary and immaculate western styling. Her designs are chic, modern and extremely wearable.
“I am an ardent fan of Indian textiles at heart and had always been saddened by the fact that our indigenous craftsmen were slowly losing their space in the Indian fashion industry due to the new technologies brought in from overseas. So I decided to do my bit by starting this label," said the designer.
In her current collection named “Chrysalis”, Ratna has used hand-woven and natural fabrics like khadi, linens, south cottons, kotas, silk tussars and silk chanderis with a contemporary twist to complete the fusion look.
