Kolkata’s popular Awadhi diner cooks up special winter menu

Kolkata/IBNS: With Kolkata still in winter’s embrace, why not try a comforting bowl of ‘nalli nehari’ accompanied by ‘taftan’?

It is said that nalli nehari is best enjoyed in winter and has been a popular breakfast dish, which likely originated during the Mughal rule; during Shah Jahan’s time, according to some food historians.

The word ‘nehari’ is believed to have come from the Arabic word ‘nahar’ meaning ‘morning’.

It is a mutton stew (usually shank of goat or lamb) cooked in a closed pan with spices.

Usually, diners eat it with a side of bread.

Aminia, one of the city’s popular restaurant chain, is offering a winter special nalli nihari at its Rajarhat outlet where you can lap up the stew with taftan, a leavened flour bread.

Aminia has added two new starters to its winter menu too – Tandoori Chicken Wings and Mutton Seekh Lucknowi.

You may end your meal with a hearty Gajar Ka Halwa for dessert.

What: Aminia’s Winter Delicacies
Where: Winter menu available at the chain’s outlets across the city; nalli nihar with taftan available only at the Rajarhat outlet
Price: Rs. 700 for two people (approx)
Timing: 11:30 am - 10:45 pm
