Nagaland Government directs food business operators to update FSSAI licenses for food safety

Kohima/IBNS: To ensure food safety standards are rigorously upheld, the Nagaland government has issued a directive mandating food business operators (FBOs) to renew or obtain new licenses.

In accordance with the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing & Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011, the state's health and family welfare department has communicated this requirement. This applies universally to FBOs operating in both rural and urban areas, EastMojo reports.

To streamline the process, FBOs can complete license renewal or acquisition through the official website: https://foscos.fssai.gov.in. The deadline for compliance is October 31.

The directive applies to a range of entities, including food and dietary supplement stockists, vendors, manufacturers, and more. Strict adherence to the Food Safety and Standards Act, Rules & Regulations is mandatory.

The department highlighted the presence of outdated FSSAI License/Registration numbers on certain FBOs' packaging labels, stressing the need for updated online numbers. Labels should include key information like manufacturing date and ingredients.

Operating any food business requires registration under the Food Safety & Standards Authority (FSS) Act, 2006, and a valid FSSAI License/Registration certificate.

Non-compliance could lead to penalties of up to Rs 5 lakh and imprisonment of up to six months, as per section 63 in conjunction with section 31 of the FSS Act, 2006.
