92.7 BIG FM launches folk music show ‘Maatir Taney Maatir Gaaney’ in Kolkata

Kolkata, Apr 15 (IBNS): Radio network 92.7 BIG FM is adding to its bouquet of cutting edge and unique line of programming with the launch of new folk music show ‘Maatir Taney Maatir Gaaney’.

With the launch of this show, the radio channel aims to promote the rich history of ‘Baul’ folk music and singers. ‘Baul’ is one of the most popular folklore music of West Bengal.

Furthermore, the show will also highlight the local art and cultural heritage of the city.

The show will be hosted by popular folk artist Kalika Prasad Bhattacharya who will give an insight on the beautiful folk culture and music of West Bengal. The show will air from 5 PM to 7 PM every Sunday.

Gracing the launch event held today at Hotel Aauris were Kolkata’s most heard, RJ Kaushik and Kalika Prasad Bhattacharya the eminent folk artist with great knowledge of folk traditions and songs.

The artist spoke in length about the show and what it entails. ‘Maatir Taney Maatir Gaaney’ will highlight the vast history and lives of the famous Baul singers interspersed with folk music of various styles.

Every Sunday host Kalika Prasad Bhattacharya will grace the show and speak about his experience as a folk singer.

He will entertain and engage listeners with famous traditional folk songs and interesting trivia behind the lives of folk singers and the genre.

The show will bring forth the rich history of West Bengal’s folk music and entertain the avid listeners with famous folklores, philosophies and interesting personal experiences related to the songs.

Speaking on the development, folk artist Kalika Prasad Bhattacharya says, “This is a great initiative by the radio channel to connect listeners to the beautiful era of folk music. With each passing day, we are forgetting the beauty and importance of our folk heritage. Through this show we aim to provide our audience with an insight to the folklores and folk music that are so rich and vast in history.’’
