India dedicates Sunday to fathers
New Delhi, June 15 (IBNS): It's time again to cherish the importance of fathers and to pay tribute to fatherhood as children across the world dedicated Sunday to celebrate Father's Day with India posing no exception.
The day witnesses honouring of fathers and their influence in the society.
On Sunday, popular search engine Google marked their home page with an attractive doodle that pays tribute to fathers and celebrates the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2014.
As users open the homepage of Google, a green coloured ‘Google’ appears on screen.
This green colour symbolises the field of FIFA World Cup 2014. The first 'O' of Google is presented in a smaller font size as compared to the second ‘O’ who has a moustache and represents a father.
Both 'Os' symbolises a father-kid duo in a manner which depicts the kid holding his father's hand portraying dependence on him.
The kid-like ‘O’ holds a football demonstrating the significance of FIFA World Cup.
It also shows that a father accompanies his kid to enjoy World Cup 2014 season.
Originating from United States, ‘Father's Day’ has a significant historical context and background.
It is said that it was Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane in Washington who came up with the idea of celebrating ‘Father’s Day’ in 1909.
She received support from the local religious leaders and the pagers of history says that it was June 19, 1910 when the first ‘Fathers Day’ was celebrated.
Observance of the third Sunday of June as the ‘Father's Day’ was decreed by law in 1972, making the celebration of a day dedicated to the 'fathers' a mandatory one.
On this day, children present cards and small gifts to their father and convey their respects for holding such an important position in their lives.
As the day brings a chance for kids to express their love for fathers, many term this as a consumerism gimmick.
"I feel that it is again a business gimmick like all other days which we celebrate. I love my father and will try to gift him everyday, a single day for me is not so important. I celebrate the occasion every day," Priya Saha, a house wife from Kolkata said.
While Kunal Sarkar, a Mumbai-based IT professional, feels Father's Day provides a chance to celebrate the fatherhood specially.
"In our busy life we tend to forget our parents these days.We meet them every day but we can hardly get some time to spend some time together. I support and love celebrating the occasion," he said.
To bank in on this celebratory mood of Indian people and overseas, multiple brands have launched gift items and discounts by keeping in mind this special day.
Hotel Sahara Star, the flagship hotel of Sahara India Pariwar, has announced a special Father's Day brunch at its F&B outlet Earthplate, on Sunday.
The lavish brunch specially created by Chef Kshitizon to celebrate the Father's Day at Earthplate, offers a range of mouthwatering delicacies.
Celebrities also observed Father's day on micro-blogging site Twitter.
Posting a picture of his father, Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Derek O'Brien tweeted: "When I put dad's pic up last month on his 80th Bday he loved the messages.So here goes : Happy Father's Day."
Congress leader Rajeev Shukla tweeted: "Happy Father's Day."
Singer Shaan posted :"Hey HAPPY FATHERS' DAY to All Us Dads and All Our DADS!!!"
Actress Divya Dutta tweeted: "To daddy. Wherever u r! Ur missed n loved! Ur stories, ur waking me early Mrn fr studying, ur surprise gifts ! For you! always ur princess, Pampered loved. Made to fl t most beautiful little gal! Today n always, Hapy Father's Day... My hands stil hold ur finger..."
Posting a picture with her father Anil Kapoor, actress Sonam Kapoor wished her father saying: "Happy Father's Day to the best dad! Love you daddy."
Posting a picture with her father, TV actress Gauahar khan tweeted: "May Allah grant his choicest blessings on my Pappa.. strongest, cutest, loveliest. Happy Father's Day..Alhamdulillah."
Model Ponam Pandey tweeted: "#HappyFathersDay to my dad even tho he gets on my nerves at times 😂 but i love him with all my heart â¤ï¸ I Loveeee Youuuuu Daddy."
