New York, July 31 (IBNS): Popular search engine Google on Sunday celebrated Indian writer Munshi Premchand’s 136th birthday by decorating its homepage with a doodle.

In the doodle, Munshi is seen busy thinking about something as he is busy composing his creations.

Rural lives have mostly dominated the content of Munshi's writings.

He is one of the most celebrated writers of the Indian subcontinent, and is regarded as one of the foremost Hindustani writers of the early twentieth century.

A novel writer, story writer and dramatist, he has been referred to as the "Upanyas Samrat" ("Emperor among Novelists") by some Hindi writers. His works include more than a dozen novels, around 250 short stories, several essays and translations of a number of foreign literary works into Hindi.

Born Dhanpat Rai on July 31, 1880 at Lamhi village in Uttar Pradesh, the writer passed away, leaving behind his creations, on Oct 8, 1936.
