Prez, PM and politicos greet nation on Raksha Bandhan

New Delhi, Aug 18 (IBNS): President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other lawmakers greeted the nation on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan on Thursday.

"Warm greetings and felicitations to all my fellow citizens on the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan. The festival of Rakhi stands for the eternal bond of love and trust that brothers and sisters share," President Pranab Mukherjee shared on Twitter.

"May the Rakhi festival strengthen fraternal feelings and the spirit of oneness in our society. May this unique festival inculcate in us the need to protect women in our society and promote their welfare," he added.

The President urged for a safer nation for women and girls.

"Let us on this occasion resolve to ensure that women and girls of our country feel safe and secure at all times," he said.

Greeting the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared on Twitter, "Best wishes to everyone on this very special day of Raksha Bandhan."

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said, "On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, I wish everyone a joyful festival. May the festivities strengthen the bond of trust & love in the society."

" Happy 'Rakshabandhan' to you," Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh's tweet read.

Announcing Raksha bandhan incentive for women, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said, "On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, DTC offers free travel to all women today."

"Raksha Bandhan ke shubh avsar par sabhi ko hardik shubh kamnayein," West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee tweeted.
