Kolkata, Oct 22 (IBNS) METRO Cash & Carry India's Community Stars Awards 2014 were awarded to salute the spirit of community-driven entrepreneurship, demonstrated by 4 ambassadors of social change in the cities of Kolkata, Bangalore and Delhi.

At simultaneous ceremonies in Kolkata, Bangalore and Delhi, METRO Cash & Carry identified the organisations Jhankar, One Earth Foundation, Chavady’s Pickles and Teach for India as exemplary social entrepreneurs, that run their businesses as a means of giving back to society.

While Jhankar won the Gold Award, the Silver was won by One Earth Foundation, the Bronze by Chavady’s Pickles and the Special Jury Award went to Teach for India Foundation.  The winners of the top honours were selected by a panel of jurists, who awarded them Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards along with cash prizes of Rs. 1,00,000, Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 25,000 respectively.

The METRO Community Stars Awards 2014 contest was initiated to honour organisations that demonstrate business acumen combined with social commitment, and serve as a role model for others.

Rajeev Bakshi, Managing Director, METRO Cash and Carry India expressed his confidence that this initiative from METRO would underscore the Company’s commitment to help small, socially engaged businesses to grow and flourish.

He said “Our winners have shown us that it is possible to combine entrepreneurship with social responsibility, and inspire us all to be true contributors to society through our businesses.  We are truly proud to be associated with the kind of community spirit that drives these organisations.”
