Kolkata/IBNS: Hindustan Unilever Ltd chose Kolkata as the launch pad for introducing the popular global mayonnaise brand Hellmann’s in India.

Established in 1913 by Richard Hellmann, the brand is used in more than 50 countries across the globe, according to the company.

After the product launch by Chef Shaun Kenworthy and actors Parambrata Chatterjee and Priyanka Sarkar at the Engineers Club, guests were taken on a heritage tram ride where they were served several dishes curated by Chef Kenworthy and prepared with Hellmann’s products.

The tram was decorated with special artwork by graffiti artist Hanif Kureshi to capture the many ways the branded mayo can be used.

Said Krishnendu Dasgupta, Director, HUL Foods, “As a brand it is our continued effort to innovate and create products that consumers enjoy and cherish. Hellmann’s has always stood for one thing: great taste; which is why we are proud to introduce its world-famous mayonnaise to the food capital of India. We enjoyed presenting the product to the city’s food fanatics through a one-of-a-kind tram ride experience accompanied by feel-good food."

Highlights from the menu included 'gondhoraj & kashundi steamed fish', 'kathi rolls', 'pani puri' and chocolate cake.

Chef Shaun Kenworthy said, “I really enjoyed hosting Hellmann’s exotic food trail through a unique tram ride. I love the city’s fondness for food and creating flavorful recipes for them with a Western twist was the ideal amalgamation of both! I am definitely going to experiment with some more local dishes for my friends and family, using Hellmann’s real mayonnaise, of course!”

“Growing up in the West, I grew up with Hellmann’s,” reminisced Chef Kenworthy, “it was something which was always there in the fridge. In many commercial kitchens, Hellmann’s mayonnaise was available in big six gallon drums I think, which every chef loved because it was something that we could store other things in later.”

Actor-director Parambrata Chatterjee said, “Chef Shaun added an indo-western touch to dishes that I’ve grown up eating and the new twist completely bowled me over! I am definitely going back home with a bag full of truly the world's number one mayonnaise and cannot wait to try these myself.”

Said actor Priyanka Sarkar, “I am happy that the world’s leading brand Hellmann’s is finally getting launched in Kolkata. It deserves such a big welcome. I have to follow a diet and maintain my weight but when it comes to good food, I cannot resist myself. And if I have indulged myself into too much eating, I try to burn the calories by working out. I am excited to make some good recipes out of this rich creamy mayonnaise at home.”

Guests appreciated the tram ride past some of the heritage monuments and eateries of Kolkata and listening to interesting food tales.
