Kolkata/IBNS: Sumit Ghose, 55, is one of those people who have decided not to let the fear of the pandemic stop them from helping those working on the frontline.

This Kolkata resident, an employee of the state government's Youth Services Department, led an initiative to organize free distribution of face masks, sanitizers and packaged water for police personnel and working media persons.

Ghosh said after he started the initiative, a few of his friends too chipped in with help.

According to Ghose, they have already provided 2,000 face masks and  50 sanitizers to each of the 20 police stations in north and central Kolkata and to Press Club Kolkata.

They also distributed packaged water to the policemen and working journalists on the  beat in these areas for three days.

He said they provided food packets to some daily wagers who were unable to earn a living.

Ghosh said that they are planning to provide similar support to people working at the health centres and hospitals.
