Kolkata/IBNS: In the season of spreading joy and festivity, Rapido, India’s largest bike taxi platform, joined hands with The Rotary Club of Calcutta Majestic and the Bow Barracks Residents Welfare Association, to help spread some cheer and happiness among the children and elderly at the Bow Barracks, this year.

The Captains (driver-partners of Rapido) dressed as Santa Claus to deliver parcels of joy to the little kids along with Rtn. Bulbul Kundu, President, The Rotary Club of Calcutta Majestic.

A similar drive for the elderly is scheduled on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at Bow Barracks, Kolkata, along with the President of Rotary Club of Calcutta Jadavpur, Rtn. Dr. Kunal Ray. The event witnessed the presence of Angela Govindraj, Secretary, Bow Barracks Residents’ Welfare Association, who coordinates the event annually.

On this year’s celebrations and plans, Angela Govindraj, Secretary, Bow Barracks Residents’ Welfare Association, said, “Christmas is a festival of sharing. Everyone has been through a tough time this year and arranging funds for arranging food and toys for kids and elderly has been particularly difficult. During this time, we are thankful to have associations like Rotary Clubs and Rapido who came forward and helped us make this year’s drive successful.”

The contribution from the Rotary club was a big part of the event being successful this year.

Bulbul Kundu, President, The Rotary Club of Calcutta Majestic, said, “For kids, the happiest moments in their lives are the ones where they are gifted toys. They often get other gifts like food and clothes. Hence, we wanted to give them toys that will make them happy and have something to behold, this Christmas.”

Dr. Kunal Ray, President of Rotary Club of Calcutta Jadavpur, said, “Rotary Club of Calcutta Jadavpur looks for opportunity to serve the elderly people of the society. This Christmas we planned to reach out to Bow Barracks, a small hub of mainly Anglo-Indian population who have lived here for generations, to entertain them with a good meal and spend some time with them. Serving God through humanity.”

Realising the gap in fulfilling the requirement this year, Rapido ensured to step in to bridge the gap of delivering the gifts. Mayank Agarwal, Head of Operations, Rapido, said, “This year has been challenging in terms of logistics and commute. We wanted to ensure that, an amazing initiative that fills the hearts of under privileged kids and elderly, is not affected because of such issues. It makes us really happy to contribute in whatever small way we can and spread the spirit of the festivities among them.”
