It's time again to cherish the importance of fathers and to pay tribute to fatherhood as children across the world dedicated Sunday to celebrate Father's Day with India posing no exception.

The day witnesses honouring of fathers and their influence in the society

Google decorated its homepage with a special doodle to mark the occasion.

The animated doodle showed various affectionate moments shared between a father and his children, reflecting the emotional bond they share.

Originating from United States, ‘Father's Day’ has a significant historical context and background.

It is said that it was Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane in Washington who came up with the idea of celebrating ‘Father’s Day’ in 1909.

She received support from the local religious leaders and the pagers of history says that it was June 19, 1910 when the first ‘Fathers Day’ was celebrated.

Observance of the third Sunday of June as the ‘Father's Day’ was decreed by law in 1972, making the celebration of a day dedicated to the 'fathers' a mandatory one.

On this day, children present cards and small gifts to their father and convey their respects for holding such an important position in their lives.

Various shopping malls and restaurants across cities have been decorated with Father's Day themes to give the celebration a punch.

India celebrities also joined the mood of saying 'I love you' to their father on Sunday.

Indian cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar tweeted: " Every child's first Hero is his father. I was no different. Even today, I remember what he taught me, his unconditional love & how he let me find my own path. Happy Father's Day everyone!"
