Kolkata/IBNS: Kolkata stood witness to an intimate gay marriage ceremony with Abhishek Ray and Chaitanya Sharma taking vows as per traditional rituals on Sunday evening.

While their marriage was a close-knit affair, the wedding pictures have gone viral on social media.

In the pictures, the couple is seen happily exchanging garlands as per the traditional 'Varmala' ritual.

The venue had signage reading “Abhishek weds Chaitanya “ with the caricatures of two men saying “We do”.

The Haldi ceremony was also celebrated where the couple was seen in colour-coordinated outfits. Abhishek chose to dress up as a traditional Bengali groom in a dhoti and kurta while Chaitanya opted for a sherwani.

Looking so much in love, Abhishek gave us several sneak peeks of the ceremony on his Instagram handle and he captioned one of the images as 'mine' referring to his partner Chaitanya.

While gay marriage is not yet legal in India, in a landmark ruling, the Supreme Court of India decriminalised a colonial-era law - Section 377 of Indian Penal Code- that used to criminalize consensual gay sex. The hard-fought victory has since been celebrated by the LGBTQ community.
