Shasthipada Chattopadhyay awarded ‘Bal Sahitya Puraskar 2017’ by Sahitya Akademi

Kolkata, June 22 (IBNS): Eminent Bengali writer Shasthipada Chattopadhyay has been awarded Bal Sahitya Puraskar for his contribution to children’s literature in Bengali for 2017 by the Sahitya Akademi.

The Executive Board of the Akademi met on Thursday at Guwahati under the chairmanship of its President Prof. Vishwanath Prasad Tiwari to approve the selection of 24 writers for the award on behalf of Sahitya Akademi.

The Awards relate to books first published during five years immediately preceding the year of Award which required that the books are to be published between 2011 and 2015. However, the award may also be given to a writer based on his/her total contribution to Children Literature during the first 10 years of initiation of the award i.e. from 2010 to 2019.

The award include a casket containing an engraved copper-plaque and a cheque of Rs.50,000.

The Yuva Puraskar in 24 languages has also been announced today. According to Dr. K. Sreenivasrao, the Secretary, Sahitya Akademi, 16 books of poetry, 5 of short stories, 2 of biography and one of essay have won the Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar 2017.

Shamik Ghosh won the award for his collection of Bengali short stories while . Ms. Maina Tudu was awarded for her book of poetry in Santhali.

The award including a copper-plaque and a cheque of Rs.50,000 is given to an author of the age of 35 and below as on 1st January of the year of award.
