A cancer survivor, Susmita Chatterjee believes the important thing is to stay positive and draw inspiration from Nature.

Congratulations on the release of 'Eka Noi'. What is the feedback from your friends and readers who have already read your book.

Thanks for publishing my book "Eka Noi". While undergoing treatment for breast cancer in hospital, I used to note down my various feelings in a diary. Now, these pieces of information have been woven and converted into a book. My family and friends have encouraged me and they are very happy. They know what I am putting into literary form. Now, all are eagerly waiting to read the book.

What kind of books inspire you as a writer? Who are your favorite authors?

Of course, Tagore. His writings have always inspired me. Mostly, I spent time reading short stories elaborating real world world issues. I also like reading travelogues.

What are you doing to let readers know about your book?

Now, I have time to discuss with my friends the next phase i.e. about taking the message of my book to more readers. I am strategizing means to reach maximum readers.

Tell me something about your book. Some highlights.

"Eka Noi" means not alone. During my journey through medications and surgeries towards getting myself cured of breast cancer, I had many experiences, positive and negative feelings about myself and the world around me. I gained the lost confidence when I reached nature, especially the banyan tree. I could imbibe positive vibrations. I felt like living again and realised that none of us are alone in this world created by god. Cancer as a disease is increasing and also cancer survivors are increasing in numbers. We should strive to live longer healthy life and enhance the triumph of life.

Tell me something about yourself and your background.

I was born and brought up in the coal-town Dhanbad. I am a graduate with Bengali as my Honours subject. During school and college days, I had penned poems for little magazines. I also learnt Rabindra sangeet since childhood. Presently, I am staying in Pune since my marriage with a defense scientist.

Do you plan to take it up as a full time profession if response is good?
Though I have no plans yet, I feel this is the right time to get myself associated with some creative work, as my daughter is married off. I have started collecting information on my next project.
