Kolkata/IBNS:  US Consul General Melinda Pavek inaugurated the U.S. Pavilion at the 46th International Kolkata Book Fair on Thursday. This year the theme of the Pavilion is DEIA (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility).

Welcoming the book lovers Consul General Pavek said, “The United States government has adopted these four pillars of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility as the norm and not a choice.  And that’s what we strive to achieve with all our programs at the Consulate, at our American Spaces, and through our diverse collection of immigrant American literature at the American Center library.

"This pavilion and the events that will take place here over the next two weeks will reflect the communities and represent the societies in which we live, ensuring the doors of opportunity are open and accessible to all and that we leave no one behind.”

Consul General Pavek also participated in a conversation around DEIA through the lens of art and culture with select University students.

The students then created collective art on the canvas installed inside the U.S. Pavilion.

The programs at the U.S. Pavilion during the Book Fair have been designed to engage diverse audiences through conversations, art installations, and interactions, which are powerful tools for building strong communities that embrace the vision of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.
