Author and academician Mahul Brahma launched his 10th book ‘Bharat, A Luxe Story’ in the historic city of Bath in the UK earlier this month during his annual academic visit to the university.

Brahma is Dean and Professor with NSHM Media School in India and a Visiting Research Fellow with Bath Business School, Bath Spa University, UK.

As a Visiting Research Fellow he is invited by the university to deliver a series of lectures on various facets of communication and marketing and for exploring possible research collaborations. He is a Fellow of the Commercial Education Society of Australia (FCES).

He is a luxury commentator, columnist and has authored 10 books, exploring luxe academically through the lens of history, sociology, economics, philosophy, anthropology, and mythology.

His books include ‘The Luxe Trilogy’, ‘Luxe Inferno’, ‘The Mythic Value of Luxury’, ‘Quiet Luxe’, ‘Aesthetic Leadership in Luxury’, among others. ‘Bharat, A Luxe Story’ was launched earlier this year in India by Ambassador of Brazil Kenneth Feli Haczynski Da Nobrega.

Pro Vice Chancellor of Bath Spa University John Strachan launched the book during a seminar in the Newton Park campus of the university in the presence of Head of Bath Business School Dr Diana Reader, senior faculty members and students on Nov 13. He has also written the foreword for the book.

Speaking of the book,  Strachan said: “India, in all of its remarkable variety, a country both traditional and hyper-modern, is a key theme of this book.  That said, though Bharat is the main focus of his work in this book, Mahul is engaged in an insightful and persuasive engagement with culture in both the eastern and the western worlds; his is a wide ranging and provocative vision.”

He had also launched Prof Brahma’s previous book ‘Aesthetic Leadership in Luxury’ in the UK in 2023.

Brahma said: “Bharat, A Luxe Story is very special for me as it commemorates my two-decade-long journey as a luxury columnist, commentator and an author. It is my homage to the rich heritage of Bharat. The book traces the evolution of luxury in Bharat, which is all set to become a USD 10-trillion economy, with the passage of time and change of perspective of Indians, redefining the mythic value of luxury.”

He added: “I am thankful to my friend Prof John Strachan for penning such a wonderful foreword and for launching the book. A big thanks to Dr Diana Reader for her unflinching support. It is a wonderful experience to launch the book at Bath Business School, Bath Spa University in the presence of esteemed academicians and students. A big thanks to Bath Business School and Bath Spa University.”

Bharat, A Luxe Story is an authoritative, research-based anthology of essays exploring various facets of luxury from the perspectives of Sociology, Philosophy, Anthropology, History, and Economics, revolving around India, that is Bharat, to find a deeper meaning of luxe beyond the myopic ‘price tag’. It captures the centuries-old love affair between Bharat and global luxury brands. From Cartier’s Patiala Necklace to custom-made Louis Vuittons and Rolls Royces, Bharat has been the epicentre of branded luxury.
