Ziro/Arunachal Pradesh: TRIFED, The Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India, successfully organized the maiden Tribal Artisan Mela at Abotani Hall in Ziro with support from Arunachal Pradesh Rural Livelihoods Mission and District Mission Management Unit Ziro.

NEHHDC, the Northeast Handicraft and Handloom Development Cooperation, also participated as a partner of TRIFED, stated Arunachal24.

TAM was conducted under the scheme ‘Marketing and Logistics Development for Promoting Tribal Artisan Products from Northeastern Region (PTP-NER) for strengthening the livelihood opportunities of tribal artisans of Northeastern region’.

The primary objective of the Tribal Artisan Mela (TAM) was to showcase and promote the creative talents of tribal artisans and facilitate their exposure to potential business opportunities to enhance their livelihoods.

The samples displayed at the event were evaluated by a team of experts from TRIFED, ArSRLM, and NEHHDC for quality, craftsmanship, pricing, and sale potential.

The experts provided guidance to the artisans on how to improve their products' marketability at national and international levels.

Lower Subansiri Deputy Commissioner Bamin Nime suggested that the TAM should be coincided with significant public gatherings such as the Ziro Festival of Music, Statehood Day, Independence Day or Republic Day celebrations as there is a significant demand for tribal products, particularly among foreign tourists, and such events have tremendous potential for the sale of tribal products.

The TAM saw the participation of 35 tribal artisans, including both individual artisans and SHG members, from various circles such as Ziro, Sagalee, Yazali, Yachuli, Pistana, and Upper Yachuli, showcasing their products.

Out of the 35 artisans, 20 were empaneled by TRIFED for bulk supply of their products, while 15 were selected to receive additional training to enhance their skills.
