Academy of Fine Arts to re-open museum with Tagore paintings
With an inventory of 3000 paintings and sculptures, the museum will have on display Jan 11 onward 78 artworks, among them 35 paintings by Rabindranath Tagore.
Furthermore, the Academy is seeing great response to its 79th Annual All India Fine Arts Exhibition 2014, which was inaugurated on Dec 28 by Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi. The exhibition, on till Jan 11, has seen art enthusiasts, art lovers and students alike walk in to admire the artworks on display.
Said Prasun Mukherjee, Chairman, Board of Trustee, Academy of Fine Arts, “This year, the Academy received a whopping 500 entries for the show, out of which 205 have been selected. There were also 31 entries from the Invited Category- featuring contributions by Ganesh Haloi, Ramananda Bandhopadhyay, Chandra Bhattacharjee, among others. A high point of the annual show is the felicitation of Sri Ganesh Haloi with the Lady Ranu Mookerjee Lifetime Achievement Award, for his prolific and vibrant contribution to contemporary art.”
He stated that the Academy is looking forward to the reopening of its museum, and that great attention is being paid to the restoration work.
