Acropolis Mall goes the art way to raise awareness against 'Honking'
The exhibition, which is on view till September 11, from 10.00 am till 10.00 pm, was inaugurated by Suvendu Adhikari, Minister of Transport and Jogen Chowdhury, artist and Member of Parliament.
Amalgamating both art and social awareness, the exhibition, curated by Sachin Kaluskar from Vadodara; showcases 21 paintings with the objective of sending a subliminal message to the viewer’s subconscious mind against the everyday menace of incessant honking.
While 10 of the artists are from Kolkata and include names such as Jagannath Mohapatra, Anusuya Mohapatra, Malleshi H V, Shyamali Haldar, Debraj Goswami, Rajiba Lochan Pani, Diptish Ghosh Dastidar, Prantik Chattopadhyay, Ananya Dalal and Thakere Naik, the other 11 artists are from Vadodara and include Debasish Dutta, Jaldip Chauhan, Sanjay Rajwar, Jignasha Doshi, Rahul Mukherjee, Amarnath Sharma, Nimisha Rao, Poorva Nimkar, Shanta Rakshit, Sanket Viramgami and Sheetal Kaluskar.
While the exhibition witnessed several schoolchildren viewing the paintings, a spokesperson confirmed that the exhibition would be showcased in a number of schools too, to further the cause and spread awareness.
Commenting on Acropolis Mall as the venue, the Managing Director of Merlin Group & Acropolis Mall, Mr. Sushil Mohta said, “Acropolis Mall, Kolkata constantly tries to create awareness on various social causes and environmental sustainability initiatives for our patrons. Being one of the best shopping and entertainment destination, we believe in promoting causes which require immediate attention. We have always favoured the artistic route to do this and are happy to contribute to raising public consciousness wherever we can.”
