Kolkata, Apr 14 (IBNS): Almost a hundred years back, Scottish businessman David Yule came to India and took over the Andrew Yule & Co. - a conglomerate with diversified interests set up by his uncles.

“His patronage and encouragement were instrumental behind setting up the Andrew Yule Mahabharata Path in 1919, a Puja dedicated to Lord Jagannatha by Sir Onkar Mal Jatia, Dhundi Mahakul, Birabhadra Parida and Bikali Charan Das”, said Sunil Munshi, Chairman and Managing Director, Andrew Yule Company Ltd.

Ramesh Chandra Das, Joint General Secretary, Andrew Yule Mahabharata Patha, added, “Even a century later, this Puja - organised and carried out by the hundreds of Andrew Yule employees who hail from Odisha - is still very much a part of the Kolkata calendar. The Mahabharata Path is still going on with undaunted spirit and ceaseless enthusiasm”.

This year, the Andrew Yule Mahabharata Patha Committee is celebrating its 99th anniversary commencing from Apr 9 to 15.

This week-long function will be followed by Shree Shree Jagannatha Puja and recitation from the Srimad Bhagvad Gita, with a programme on Indian cultural heritage, to be held on Apr 14.
