Ashwini Vaishnaw tests truly made-in-India laptop, shares video

New Delhi: Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday shared a video of himself testing a fully made-in-India laptop developed by VVDN Technologies.

In the video, VVDN Technologies CEO Puneet Agarwal states, “Hardware, motherboard, mechanicals, body or chassis, and software are made in India and are on par with international standards.”

While the video does not provide detailed specifications, the company's official website indicates that VVDN Technologies offers entry-level laptop solutions to OEMs for white-labelling with different configurations.

One such model features a 14-inch display, an Intel Celeron processor, up to 256GB of SATA SSD storage, and up to 8GB of RAM, running Windows 11.

The website also highlights that the laptop is available for mass manufacturing and white labeling, allowing companies to sell it under well-known brand names rather than under VVDN Technologies' branding.

India’s hardware manufacturing sector has been growing steadily, bolstered by the Make in India initiative and the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme, which encourages local manufacturing to reduce import dependence.

In 2023, the government temporarily banned laptop and tablet imports to promote domestic production, later lifting the restriction to prevent shortages and give brands time to establish manufacturing units.
