Blind Date still the 'in thing' during Pujas: Actors

| | Oct 12, 2015, at 08:20 pm
Kolkata, Oct 12 (IBNS) With Pujas round the corner, the team of Cross Connection 2, the true sequel of the first youth-centric breezy film, speaks about blind date during the five days and if it has lost the thrill and charm.
"Blind Date will forever be blind date for the youngsters during the four days. May be instead of cross communication over telephone, it will be more of a kind of bumping into each other in pandals by two strangers or little familiar ones or stealing a glance from passing vehicle. But the spirit will remain the same," script writer, actor, story-teller Padmanava Dasgupta tells IBNS.

Padmanava, who describes Cross Connection as the path-bearer of new age, middle of road, small budget Bengali films, terms the sequel as a tribute which can't replicate the magic of cross connection as the concept of cross-wiring has become outdated in the age of whatsapp and gtalk and facebook but not the thrill of blind dating.

"There are hilarious scenes involving the two sets of couples (one essayed by Ritwik Chakroborty and Rimjhim Mitra and another by Tanusree Chakraborty and Bollywood actor Sayan Munshi) who are cross-linked again but not by land line goof-up. And there are present-day situations," he said.

Tanusree, when asked about blind date during puja, recalls having such experiences at young age but says, "These things happened at younger days on puja. But did not last. And when we gradually grew up boys got scared to approach us for blind date."

"Blind dates may happen even now! But changed contours," she asks.

Actor Rimjhim, one of the main characters in the Sudeshna Roy-Abhijit Guha film, says blind date happens during puja even nowadays but with the advent of DP in FB and Whatsapp it is not half as thrilling.

"It is non-serious and one side can always turn back at the slightest hint of trouble. The face of the two persons on blind date already become known."

Director Abhijit Guja says, "Some things never change. Pujas come and go. And blind dates are still set at puja pandals."

Actor Ritwik Chakroborty, the protagonist in both the original and the sequel Cross Connection 2, says, "I didnot have any blind dates. But yes I went for dates."

The cast and production met at Cakes, a premier confectionery shop which rolled out fusion cake-pastries by blending different features (cross connection).

Cross Connection 2 is a story of two contemporary young couples Vicky and Riya and Aakash and Imon, Sudeshna Roy says.

After a series of mix-ups (cross connection) with hilarious consequences the film reaches its climax, where all four go through a realization process, while a 65-year old grandma says love never changes, it just turns different colors.
