Elon Musk warns he may ban the use of Apple devices at his firms over recent Open AI deal

Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk has expressed his displeasure over the partnership reached between Apple and Open AI.

He said he would ban the use of Apple devices in his own firms if the partnership between the two tech firms continues as announced during an event on Monday.

"If Apple integrates OpenAI at the OS level, then Apple devices will be banned at my companies. That is an unacceptable security violation," he posted on X.

Musk said: " It’s patently absurd that Apple isn’t smart enough to make their own AI, yet is somehow capable of ensuring that OpenAI will protect your security & privacy! "

He said: "Apple has no clue what’s actually going on once they hand your data over to OpenAI. They’re selling you down the river."

Musk runs a competitive AI firm named xAI.

Tech giant Apple announced it is integrating ChatGPT into experiences within iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, allowing users to access ChatGPT’s capabilities—including image and document understanding—without needing to jump between tools, a move that will help the firm take a step forward towards the AI era.

Siri can also tap into ChatGPT’s intelligence when helpful.

Apple users are asked before any questions are sent to ChatGPT, along with any documents or photos, and Siri then presents the answer directly.

"Additionally, ChatGPT will be available in Apple’s systemwide Writing Tools, to help users generate content for anything they are writing about," Open AI said in a statement.

Users can also tap into ChatGPT image tools to generate images in a wide variety of styles to complement what they are writing.

Privacy protections are built in when accessing ChatGPT within Siri and Writing Tools—requests are not stored by OpenAI, and users’ IP addresses are obscured.

Users can also choose to connect their ChatGPT account, which means their data preferences will apply under ChatGPT’s policies.

The ChatGPT integration, powered by GPT-4o, will come to iOS, iPadOS, and macOS later this year.
