It's time again to say "Happy Mother's Day!"
New Delhi, May 10 (IBNS): India on Sunday joined the rest of the world to make mothers feel special as people across the globe celebrates Mother's Day.
The day is dedicated in the honour of mother and motherhood maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society.
On this day, every child attempts to make his or her mother feel special.
It's just not making mothers feel special but in the age of consumerism, the day also witnesses children gifting mothers from homemade cards to expensive gifts.
Banking on the day, several companies launch different lucrative offers to attract people.
On this Mother's day, popular search engine Google decorated its homepage with a colourful Doodle.
Paying tribute to mothers across the world, the doodle showcases a mother's unconditional love for her offspring, in not just the human world but in the animal kingdom too.
The second 'O' of Google's name on its main search page is animated.
On clicking on the doodle, it starts by showing a duck taking care of her offspring. It then changes to show a cub crying out, hearing which the cub's mother comes immediately.
A mother rabbit is then shown, on whom her four kids hop onto and play in a joyous way.
Finally, it turns into a child who is seen running towards his mother, with a sunflower in hand. He then gives her a tight hug. The mother then holds the child in her arms and gives him a peck on his forehead.
The celebration of Mother's Day began in the United States in the early 20th century. It is not related to the many celebrations of mothers and motherhood that have occurred throughout the world over thousands of years, such as the Greek cult to Cybele, the Roman festival of Hilaria, or the Christian Mothering Sunday celebration (originally a celebration of the mother church, not motherhood). Despite this, in some countries Mother's Day has become synonymous with these older traditions.
Celebs and other prominent figures also took it to Twitter to join the celebration on Sunday.
Posting a screenshot with her mother, social activist Kiran Bedi tweeted: Remembering and thanking u always Mummy.Happy Moms day to all Moms."
Actress Neha Dhupia posted: "I am because of you ma ... Ur my everything ! I love u more than u can imagine ... #happymothersday…'
On this special occasion, actor Shah Rukh Khan posted a message for his two sons on the social media site and worte: "Maybe I couldn’t be… but I hope I can raise them to be like my father. I miss him…a day before Mother’s Day."
