Mumbai, Mar 19 (IBNS): Anavila Misra breathed fresh air into her collection with 'A Summer Stroll' at Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2015.
Taking a different direction from her previous walk through history with ‘Mohenjo Daro’ last season, Anavila portrayed the elegance of scenic beauty that seemed lost in the concrete jungles of today. The idea was to bring to light the diminishing existence of a more natural world absent in the hustle and bustle of the city.

Drawing inspiration from a strong love for nature, she struck the perfect balance, which was seen in the merging of the geometric arrangements and botanical prints along with the silhouette combinations of fluidity and structure.

The techniques used to attain the effect of harmony between natural and manmade, were Jamdani, hand embroidery, Sujani, Khatwa and hand batik all on handwoven linen and khadi. Even the colours used to define the collection embodied elements like greenery, cement, stone, wood and earth.

The show commenced with four models that were sporting different saris with cropped blouses in different patterns and colours, like plaid, hand printed, light blue and beige. The charismatic Bollywood star Dia Mirza ignited the ramp in a light mud coloured sari teamed with a blush pink blouse. It was played up with a hint of flower embroidery that rendered it stylish and elegant.

Fabulously composed and beautifully ornate, ‘A Summer Stroll’ by Anavila Misra was a sumptuous treat for the eyes.

Creative director of the eminent brand “Patine”, Shon Randhawa, exhibited her refined signature line of clothing termed ‘A Retro Bar’ at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2015.

Timeless, classy and on-point, modern vintage luxury was given a label through the designs created. Flaunting the secret of Patine’s artistry, a luscious medley of traditional Indian crafts and embellishments were layered into every individual outfit making each one absolutely unique.

Combining the love for global influences, the outfits were replete with classic, clean cut silhouettes that involved twists like Indian embroidery, making them contemporary but glamorous.

Recreating the 70’s, the silhouettes included shirt dresses, kaftans, bell bottoms, balloon sleeves and kerchief drapes that walked with skimmed, cropped shapes. A mélange of translucent tulles, lace and sheer silk were combined with suede, wool and crisp cotton, to form a unique tapestry of texture.

The colour story of the range included hues like beige, off-white, espresso brown and jet black. The ensembles that were most conspicuous were the boho looking kaftan with side draped cowls and the other was a peasant-sleeved flowing top tucked into a pair of shorts.

“A Retro Bar” by Shon Randhawa for her label ‘Patine’ was beautiful and apt for the modern girl who still stays in touch with her roots.

Inspired by the traditionalism of the “Silk Route” era, designers Rahul and Shikha for their label ‘Vrisa’ told a beautiful story with their collection titled ‘Samarkand’ that left an impression at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2015.

‘Samarkand’, also a city in Uzbekistan was of vital importance during an era when the exchange of art, culture and textile was made possible. Out of the extensive artistry that was traded, ‘Suzani’ was a kind of needlework that was handmade by the brides for their grooms, to be presented on their wedding day.

Being highly exhilarated by this colourful and intricately detailed embroidery, Rahul and Shikha showcased an impeccable collection of clothing that featured this form of embroidery in all its pomp and splendour.

The ensembles were daintily adorned with motifs like the sun, moon, flower, leaves, fruits, vines and birds that were symbolic to the tradition they were derived from. The colour palettes selected were complementary to the needle work with hues like white, orange and mint green.

The attire that stood out was the anarkali kurta paired with a skirt and a draped scarf with colourful pom-pom edging and an off-white vest worn as a blouse with loose pants with an ankle grazing jacket.

Eclectic and bright, ‘Samarkand’ by Rahul and Shikha were enlightening in terms of fashion and tradition that had every fashion diva wanting more.
