Love is in the air: World celebrates Valentine's Day
New Delhi, Feb 14 (IBNS) It is that time of the year when love birds join hands, spend some moments of closeness together and feel loved as the globe is celebrating Valentine's Day on Sunday.
With the Valentine's Day falling on a weekend this year, it's a win-win situations for the couples to make it a really special day indeed.
As the new year begins, Valentine's Day is awaited with baited breaths by the lovers. A week-long celebration takes place, eventually leading up to Valentine's Day.
The week long celebrations include Rose, Propose, Chocolate, Teddy Bear, Promise, Hug and Kiss Days.
The history of Valentine’s Day is quite impressive as it is observed to honour one or more early Christian martyrs named Saint Valentine.
It was first established by Pope Gelasius I in 496 AD, and was later deleted from the General Roman Calendar of saints in 1969 by Pope Paul VI.
Lovers, on this day, are seen strolling lightly in the park, holding hands and taking vows of spending the entire life together on this day.
The young generation flood into the malls, coffee shops, parks and movie theaters in pairs, in order to celebrate the entire week of love.
There's also a tradition of gift-giving on Valentine's Day.
Roses, Chocolates, Cards, Teddy Bears and Jewelry are among the things that are mostly seen as Valentine's gift.
Tabla player Zakir Hussain wished people and tweeted: "To all my dear tweeters a very Happy Valentines Day."
Actor Arjun Rampal said: "Happy Valentine's Day. Love is the only truth, and I wish you all find that love and recognise and cherish it for eternity.#ValentinesDay."
Singer Raftaar posted: "Happy Valentines Day to everyone".
Debates still rule on whether there should be a single day dedicated to love.
Sonam Deb, a college student in Kolkata, said: "I don't think there should be a single day dedicated to love. Love should be cherished every moment."
One Arun Agarwal of Delhi feels love should be expressed specially on a particular day and Valentines Day gives people that opportunity.
"Today, we are always busy with our tight schedules. Valentines Day gives us a opportunity to tell our loved ones that we love you
