PC Chandra Purashkaar 2019 conferred to Padma Bhushan Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty

Kolkata, Apr 30 (IBNS): P. C. Chandra Puraskaar, the annual national award from the P. C. Chandra Group was conferred upon one of India’s reputed cardiac surgeon and humanitarian Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre on Sunday.

Swami Suviranandaji Maharaj, the General Secretary of Ramkrishna Math and Ramkrishna Mission, Belur Math graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and gave away the award.

Also present were A.K. Chandra, Managing Director, PC Chandra Group, Aurobindo Auddy, Managing Director, Chandras; Chemical Industries Pvt. Ltd. and Udipto Chandra, Director, P.C Chandra Jewellers to address the media along with the other dignitaries.

The award ‘P.C. Chandra Puraskaar’ carries an honorarium of Rs. 10 lakhs, which is tax exempt.

Dr. Shetty also known as “The Man with Divine hands” is a true visionary. He is one of India’s top cardiac surgeons who has an experience of more than 35 years.

He has received innumerable awards and honours in his life, the most noteworthy being Padma Shri for Medicine in 2003 and Padma Bhushan for Medicine in 2013. Government of Karnataka also conferred him with the ‘Rajyotsava Award’ in 2002 for initiating the concept of “micro health insurance scheme.”

He has also been felicitated for his entrepreneurship.

P.C. Chandra Group introduced this award ceremony in 1993 as a tribute to their founding father, the late Purna Chandra Chandra.
