Kolkata, May 13 (IBNS): To add up to the wonders and magical marvels of an illusionary art, magician  P.C. Sorcar Junior has unveiled a book on his father, the legendary P C Sorcar who during the 1950s and 1960s rose to international fame as a magician holding in thrall audiences worldwide with his live shows till his sudden demise in Japan from a heart attack.

Niyogi Books in association with Starmark hosted the launch of the book  “P.C. Sorcar: The Maharaja of Magic” at Starmark book store in Kolkata's South City Mall on Friday.

Penned by P.C. Sorcar Junior the book gives a pictorial account of the metamorphosis of the art by senior Sorcar right from his tender age and how he mastered sorcery at a time when magic was considered a negativity to the development of the society.

Once his apprentice and now carrying on the proud tradition, Sorcar Junior said the book is a deeply personal view of the life and times of a towering figure.

In an intimate discussion about the book and his father with Pankaj Saha (former Director of Doordarshan) at the launch, he revealed some unknown facts and wonderful stories regarding how he was brought up to become the perfect heir.

"My father was born in 1913 and till the 50s he had to struggle to make people aware that it is all about science and there no negative usage of It." said P.C. Sorcar in context of the book.

Notably, P.C.Sorcar senior was a person who not only was a world renowned illusionist but also someone who revived a languishing art and took it to the world stage.

However a massive heart attack led to his untimely death in 1971 while he was on a trip to Japan and P.C Sorcar Junior within no time held on to the baton of his legendary father.

"My favourite magic is that I have been able to discover him both as my father and as the great magician,“ said Sorcar while conversing about the various facets of the art.

When asked about the future of magic in India he told IBNS,” This art is everywhere and education and knowledge will further help to expand it in the days to come.”

The book is also a piece of composition that has rare pictures, articles, family photos thereby giving readers a closer look at Sorcar whom the greats in his fraternity rated as the "Greatest Ever."
