Robert Moses' Kin Dance Company to perform in Kolkata
RMK's participation this year in the dance festival was made possible through a grant from the American Center to Sapphire Creations.
Sapphire Creations first made contact with Robert Moses at the American Center in 2002 during “A Link the Arts” video conference program.
Speaking at a press interaction organized by the American Center in Kolkata on Friday, Moses said,"Dance can be a therapeutic experience and transcend barriers of race, class, culture and gender."
Moses and other artists were introduced by American Center Director JJ Joria. The American choreographer's team members Katherine Disenhof, Brendan Barthel and Norma Fong were also present during the press interaction.
Speaking on his art, Sudarshan Chakravorty of Sapphire Creations said, "If it touches (a person) in any way it is no longer abstract. If after watching the dance you are moved by its power and grace then it isn't abstract."
Robert Moses and his team conducted a workshop at the American Center for city artists titled “Dancing to Connect” with a focus on skill building as well as nurturing a sense of empowerment and self-esteem.
American Center Director J.J. Joria said, “Cultural exchange serves to connect us all. The Robert Moses Dance Company has the ability to connect with the audience through their love of dance and the audiences are bound to embrace this multi-cultural group and their diverse backgrounds.”
