Rwitobroto Mukherjee, Angana Roy recollect 'pujo love' memories basking on Ga Chhunye Bolchhi success

Q (to Rwitobroto): The music video begins with your character dreaming about his love interest. Did that take you to your teenage memories?

Rwitobroto: Not teenage, the scene takes me to my memories of recent times only (laughs). I am actually a dreamy and hopeless romantic. Nothing actually in my mind substantiates something. It always remains in my head. So I completely relate to the fact that Bengalis hesitate to go out and propose rather they rely on other ways to express their feelings.

Q (to Rwitobroto): Why doesn't it substantiate something when it comes to your real-life romance?

Rwitobroto: I have no clue! I would be so happy if I knew or it actually substantiates into something. But it just doesn't happen. Maybe some Bengalis are less courageous as lovers.

Q (to Angana): How was your teenage love?

Angana: I have been on the receiving end of it quite a few times. While growing up, we of course had different stages of love. If this song had existed back then, this could have been used as a pickup line more often than just confessing the love in a very mundane way. It was fun delivering the entire thing through this video (laughs).

Q (to Angana): So did the song take you to your teenage love?

Angana: Well I have always been a very quintessential Bollywood child. While shooting this song, I kind of went back to that phase of life where we like somebody without confessing it. A sort of a vibe was present in the video that had transported me to the phase of first love.

Q (to Rwitobroto): How was your love during Durga Puja (pujo prem) which has been showcased in the video?

Rwitobroto: For me, pujo prem has always been different. I don't think any other festival so involved or related to the feeling of love can be found in the country. This is because pujo for us is not just an excuse to go out with (date) someone but also an excuse to confess one's love.

While I was studying in class 6-7, I had a huge crush on a girl, who also happened to be my childhood friend living in my locality. I never could confess my likings and then my friends pushed me to reveal my feelings.

Angana: I think this song has kind of invoked all those deep down memories and it came back while shooting the song. The song has reminded me of all the time I fell in love and the phase prior to falling in love. This song speaks about that emotion which was invoked in me during the shooting.

In my previous relationship, which lasted for about four-four-and-a-half years, I actually started dating the person just before puja. This song brings us memories of a lot of experiences which we all have gone through.

Q (to both): Were your mistakes, if at all any, in past relationships were triggered by the song?

Angana: No. I enjoyed living the song.

Rwitobroto: No, no, no. We were different as individuals in past relationships. We are never the same person the next day. This song probably tells us that we are the best version of ourselves at any given point of time.

Angana: And that is why I never regret any of my decisions. I evaluate my decisions as the best I could take at a given point of time. I take it in my stride that way and move on.

Q (to both): Since both of you are Bollywood buffs, tell us whether you consider first love always like it has been celebrated in the Hindi film industry?

Rwitobroto: It is not expected to be real-life. It's a movie. There will be no fun if films do not set larger-than-life expectations. Everytime I board a train, I expect to meet someone (like Geet in Jab We Met) (laughs). I am always reminded of some film sequences by small little incidents while on the train.

Angana: I think books and films have something in common. When we read a book, we get involved with the characters and they stay with us. It is no different when we watch a film. I think everybody aspired to be in the kind of love sequences shown in Bollywood, particularly for us who grew up in the era when Shah Rukh Khan was ruling followed by the emergence of Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Anushka Sharma and others. Films give us hope.

Q (to both): Was there something in the music video which seemed to be larger-than-life to both of you?

Rwitobroto: Yeah, yeah, the dance sequence (smiles). It was beautiful. We did not have a clue that we had to dance. Since I am not a good dancer, I was totally helped and choreographed by Angana. I had a wonderful time.

Angana: We both discussed what we could do in the dance sequence. I think the energy somehow just kicked in after almost four-five hours of shooting. We were so happy shooting this dance sequence.

Q (to Angana): Were you stressed to act on a song sung by your favourite Anupam Roy?

Angana: No, because I always look for opportunities to work with people I haven't worked earlier. It was special because I have been an admirer of him for the longest time.

Q (to Rwitobroto): How different was it to act in a completely romantic story considering the films you have been part of earlier?

Rwitobroto: The catch is that it was for a shorter time span. The challenge was that we had to deliver a lot in that span.
