Starmark to pay homage to Rabindranath Tagore on his 159th birth anniversary and to Satyajit Ray on his birth centenary

Kolkata/IBNS: Starmark, the bookstore and lifestyle chain, will pay homage to Rabindranath Tagore on his 159th birth anniversary on May 8 and to Satyajit Ray on his birth centenary year on May 13.

On May 8, the children of Future Hope will sing 'Boro Asha' in their own way.

Captive in their respective hostels/homes, they sang this song as a tribute to Tagore to save them from the current crisis. Future Hope is a 30 year old NGO that supports street and slum children by providing shelter, education and healthcare.

On this day itself, Averee Chaurey, will recite a Rabindranath Tagore poem relevant to the times in both Bengali and English.

Averee was introduced to the television screen and the stage at an early age. She later went on to perform on the silver screen.

Eminent Kolkata-based dancer Madhuboni Chatterjee will make a choreographed presentation on a song from Rabindranath Tagore’s Bhanusingher Padabali.

Madhuboni Chatterjee is a reputed professional Bharatnatyam dancer and choreographer. She is the Founder-director of Jahnavi Centre for Performing Arts. Jahnavi is a centre that helps students to learn the art of well-being through different art forms along with classical dance and ancient literature of India.

On the occasion of the International Mother’s Day, May 10, National-award winning film actor and a popular television personality, Sudiptaa Chakraborty – who has, during the lockdown period, been devoting time to keeping her daughter and niece busy with various creative activities which have attracted tremendous Facebook response – will talk about her experiences of parenting during this difficult period. Sudiptaa is also a theatre practitioner,a stage anchor, personality groomer, an acting coach and  a columnist with a leading Bengali newspaper.

Starmark will also run a contest on Mother’s Day—‘Capture the Love in a frame’—where people will be requested to upload pictures with their mothers tagging Starmark. The participants will also have to write a two-liner about their mothers. The best photograph will receive Starmark coupons.

On May 13, to mark Satyajit Ray’s birth centenary year, Judhajit Sarkar, a reputed documentary filmmaker, critic and professor of media studies will present a short viewpoint in ‘What would Ray have done?’ Judhajit has also directed two feature films.
