Thread: Twitter threatens to sue Meta

| @indiablooms | Jul 07, 2023, at 05:14 pm

Elon Musk-owned micro-blogging platform Twitter is considering legal action against   Meta over its app Thread.

Threads, which was launched to millions on Wednesday, is similar to Twitter and has been pitched by Meta bosses as a "friendly" alternative, reports BBC.

Twitter's Elon Musk said "competition is fine, cheating is not" - but Meta denied claims in a legal letter that ex-Twitter staff helped create Threads, the British media reported.

The look and feel of Threads are similar to those of Twitter, BBC reported.

On Wednesday, an attorney representing Twitter sent Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg a letter that accused the company of trade secret theft through the hiring of former Twitter employees, reports CNN.

The letter was first reported by Semafor. A person familiar with the matter confirmed the letter’s authenticity to CNN.

Meta introduced Thread on Wednesday.

The official website of Meta said: "Your feed on Threads includes threads posted by people you follow, and recommended content from new creators you haven’t discovered yet."

"Posts can be up to 500 characters long and include links, photos, and videos up to 5 minutes in length. You can easily share a Threads post to your Instagram story, or share your post as a link on any other platform you choose," read the statement.

"We’re rolling out Threads today in more than 100 countries for iOS and Android, and people in those countries can download the app from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store," the statement said.
