| @indiablooms | Aug 19, 2020, at 11:04 pm

Santiniketan/ Kolkata/UNI: The Visva Bharati is expected to write a letter to its Chancellor and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking his intervention into August 17 incident, while the Enforcement Directorate has sought information from Police Super regarding FIRs to investigate if any money was involved in the vandalism of the university's property on Monday.

The VB has also decided to abstain from attending a meeting convened by the District Magistrtate later today.

The VB, however, withdrew its proposed 12-hour fast, which was slated early today, and will write to the PM to seek a CBI probe into Monday's vandalism of its old entry gate and demolition of under construction boundary wall of Pous Mela ground.

Thousands of people under the banner of "Save Pous Mela Ground Committee" using a payloader demolished the half-built boundary wall and flattened the entry gate of the ground in a frenzy of about two hours.

Though the VB informed the DM and SP in advance apprehending trouble during construction of the boundary wall, no police was present during vandalism, alleged a section of VB officials.

The VB has filed an FIR accusing TMC MLA from Dubrajpur Naresh Bauri and some others for their alleged involvement in the vandalism.

Police have so far arrested eight accused persons in the violence.

The ED has sought reports of the FIRs from district police chief as the central investigating agency is expected to probe if any money was involved in the vandalism and violence.

The ED has written letters to Vice-Chancellor Bidyut Chakraborty, to the State Government officials in the district and district Police Super seeking details of the violence.

Official sources said the scheduled 12-hours fast of the day by the VB teachers, staff and officials to protest the vandalism was withdrawn.

The Central University has also decided to abstain from attending the meeting convened by District Magistrate Moumita Godara on Wednesday.
