What People Are Doing While Bored In Quarantine

| @indiablooms | Apr 18, 2020, at 12:15 pm

You know all of those things that you say you would do "if only you had the time"? Are you doing them now? If not, what are you doing? While the situation at hand is unfortunate, it has left a lot of people with a lot of time on their hands that they didn't have before. So what are people doing with that time? I'm sure most of us would like to think that we could finally use this time to knock some things off of that "if I only had the time" list. But are we? What exactly are people doing while bored in quarantine?

With gyms being closed, a lot of people are turning to home workouts. From body weight workouts, to resistance band exercises, to building an entire home gym, people are doing it all. Staying physically active while in quarantine is not only an opportunity for people to either begin or maintain a healthy lifestyle physically, but it's also helping people keep some form of mental clarity while cooped up inside their homes. Physical exercise is one way to keep from going completely stir crazy while inside, but a lot of people are even taking full advantage of social distancing guidelines that exist outside the home as well. Going for runs or jogs outside, or hiking walking trails have also become quite popular. It's almost as if none of these things existed before, and people just discovered them during quarantine! Regardless, the fact that people are being more physically active while in quarantine is a good thing and will hopefully instill some healthy, sustainable habits that will remain after life returns to normal.

While physical exercise is thriving in the home, the world is still suffering without access to sports. Not being able to attend sporting events is one thing, but there aren't even any sporting events to watch on television while stuck at home. That raises a whole issue that most people probably haven't even thought about, unless you're a part of it. Sports betting. Sports betting is such a major industry in the US, and now that there are no games to bet on, people are finding other ways to get their gambling fix so many turn to online casinos. Without access to sports and other forms of entertainment, people are desperately seeking some form of excitement, even people who may not typically gamble regularly. FOX Bet says it's online casino and poker operations have doubled in new customers, because out of pure boredom, people are searching the internet to find something to do, and are being led straight to these online casinos.

With restaurants being shut down a lot of people are having to fine tune their chef skills. A lot of people are having to either learn how to cook or take this time to expand their skills. With even going to grocery stores being considered a risk, many people are venturing into the world of meal delivery kits that simplify cooking at home and allow them to get the groceries they need without leaving their home.

A lot of people are also using this time to do some of those home improvement projects that they finally have the time to do. While it is causing an influx of crowds in home improvement stores, "if only I had the time" lists are in fact slowly getting shorter. Some people are taking this time to get through their reading lists, while others are exploring their artistic side. Parents are taking this time to engage more with their children, some even homeschooling their kids while schools are closed. It may seem like we're pretty much under house arrest with no options of things to do during this quarantine, but the reality is that we all have a long list of things that we have been wanting to do"if only we had the time". So take this time to knock some of those things off of your list while you can. When all of this is over and life returns to normal, keep an open mind about continuing to implement any good habits formed during this quarantine in your regular day to day life. Whatever it is you choose to do during this time, it's important to remember to be mindful of those around you and to adhere
