India is on Sunday voting in the penultimate phase of the mammoth seven-phase Lok Sabha election 2019.

Over 62 percent polling in 59 seats across seven states

 An estimated over 62 per cent turnout of the 11 crore electorate was recorded on Sunday at 59 seats spread across seven states in the sixth and penultimate phase of Lok Sabha elections.

President Ram Nath Kovind and several well-known politicians, including External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Indian National Congress president Rahul Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal were among those who took part in democracy's finest hour which passed off by and large peacefully, although sporadic violence was reported from Bengal and Jharkhand.

Former Chief Minister and Congress candidate from North East parliamentary seat Sheila Dikshit, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and BJP nominee from East Delhi Gautam Gambhir were among the early voters.

Indian cricket skipper Virat Kohli voted at a polling booth in Gurugram.

Indian Air Force chief Air Marshal BS Dhanoa exercised his franchise at a booth in Nirman Bhawan.

Former President Pranab Mukherjee exercised his franchise at a polling booth in NP Primary School, K Kamraj Lane.
 

BJP candidate attacked, escapes unhurt during 6th phase of LokSabha election in Bihar

An estimated 59.38 per cent voters exercised their franchise during the 6th phase of Lok Sabha election in Bihar even as BJP candidate from West Champaran Sanjay Jaiswal`s bodyguard opened fire to ward off an attack by a mob laced with wooden sticks allegedly having links with a particular party.

Sheila Dikshit thanks voters of Delhi, EC, poll staff, police for peaceful polling

New Delhi, May 12 (UNI) Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president and Congress candidate for the North East Delhi Parliamentary constituency Sheila Dikshit thanked the voters of Delhi for turning out in large numbers to exercise their franchise in a peaceful manner.

Dikshit cast her vote at the DAV School, Nizamuddin, New Delhi.

Dikshit also thanked the Election Commission, the Delhi Police and the staff who manned the polling stations, for enabling the citizens of Delhi to cast their votes in a smooth and orderly way.

She thanked the Delhi Police for ensuring peaceful polling as no untoward incident was reported from anywhere in Delhi.

Dikshit said that it was heartening to hear that people had begun queuing up since early morning and the poll staff got some respite only in the afternoon, but after a brief lull, when the intensity of heat subsided, polling picked up momentum as people started coming out of their homes in large numbers to cast their votes.

''We are hopeful for Delhiites’ love and affections turning into votes towards the Congress candidates,'' she added.
 

NCR Delhi records over 59.8 percent voter turnout

An estimated 59.8 plus per cent turnout of the 1.43 crore electorate was recorded till 1800 hrs on Sunday for seven Lok Sabha constituencies of Delhi NCR.

Voting started on a slow note but picked up later during the day at the 13,819 polling stations of the Capital under a heightened security presence.

President Ram Nath Kovind and several well-known politicians, including External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Indian National Congress president Rahul Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal cast their vote in the Capital.

65 percent polling in Haryana

Nearly 63.5 per cent of 1,80,56,896 voters exercised their franchise in the all ten Haryana parliamentary constituencies until 1800 hrs on Sunday.

BJP candidate Bharati Ghosh attacked and heckled in Bengal

Former IPS officer and once a trusted lieutenant of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Bharati Ghosh, who is contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Ghatal constituency, was on Sunday heckled and attacked during her visit to a poll booth in the sixth round of the national election.

The attack left the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate in tears.
