Trump campaign files lawsuit to stop counting of ballots in key state of Georgia: Reports

Washington/Sputnik: The Trump campaign has filed a lawsuit in the battleground state of Georgia to halt the counting of ballots, the Associated Press reported.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Trump campaign filed similar lawsuits in the key toss-up states of Michigan and Pennsylvania in order to stop the counting of ballots as well.

The Trump campaign is arguing that its observers were unlawfully denied access at the polls. Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden is currently leading President Donald Trump 264 - 214 on the electoral map and could win the election if he secures a win in the swing state of Nevada, according to results from Fox News.

Democratic nominee Joe Biden while making an address to the nation at Chase Center in Wilmington, Delaware, said "Democracy is still alive. America has come a long way. Here, the people rule. Power can't be taken or asserted. It flows from the people," Biden said.

 

"And it's their will that determines who will be president of the United States and their will alone," he asserted in his speech.

"And now after a long night of counting, it's clear that we are winning enough states to reach 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency," Biden added.

Joe Biden's campaign senior adviser Anita Dunn stated that they are confident of recieving 270 electoral votes.

She added that Joe Biden will declare victory once the campaign believes they have reached that number, regardless of whether news outlets have called those races.

"I think that at the end of the day we always said that the goal was to get 270 electoral votes and we feel very confident that after the vote’s been counted, that’s where the vote is going to be: above 270. And that’s how you win the presidency," Dunn told reporters.

Asked if Biden would declare victory even if all the states' results had not yet been called by the networks, she replied, "If we feel comfortable that he has 270 electoral votes, yeah."

Donald Trump campaign says it will request Wisconsin recount

The Donald Trump campaign said that it will “immediately” request for a recount of votes in Wisconsin.

But under Wisconsin law, a campaign can’t petition for said recount until the Wisconsin Election Commission completes the canvass from county election boards, CNN reported.

“Despite ridiculous public polling used as a voter suppression tactic, Wisconsin has been a razor thin race as we always knew that it would be. There have been reports of irregularities in several Wisconsin counties which raise serious doubts about the validity of the results. The President is well within the threshold to request a recount and we will immediately do so,” Bill Stepien, Trump campaign manager, said in a statement.

 Microblogging site Twitter on Wednesday hid US President Donald Trump's first tweet of Wednesday (morning in America) amid neck-to-neck fight with Democrat nominee Joe Biden in a tight race for the White House.

Even as the counting of votes is still on, President Trump in a tweet claimed the ballots counting as "strange" and that his vote advantage in key Democrat-run states had "started to magically disappear".

"Last night I was leading, often solidly, in many key States, in almost all instances Democrat run & controlled. Then, one by one, they started to magically disappear as surprise ballot dumps were counted. VERY STRANGE, and the “pollsters” got it completely & historically wrong!" Trump wrote.

Soon after the tweet was posted, Twitter hid the same behind warnings that say the claims are disputed and might be misleading.

Facebook Newsroom also alerted that its Election Operations Center will continue monitoring a range of issues in real time including reports of voter suppression content.

"If we see attempts to suppress participation, intimidate voters, or organize to do so, the content will be removed," it said.

In a post, the social media platform stated: "Once President Trump began making premature claims of victory, we started running notifications on Facebook and Instagram that votes are still being counted and a winner is not projected. We're also automatically applying labels to both candidates’ posts with this information."

Amid a neck-to-neck fight with Democrat nominee Joe Biden in a tight race for the White House, US President Donald Trump on Wednesday demanded that the counting for the votes be stopped, CNN reported.

Appearing before the reporters at the White House on Wednesday (morning in America), Trump said he had already beaten Democrat Joe Biden, and the election was being stolen from him in a massive act of fraud.

In a tweet, he called the ballots counting 'strange' which was later hidden behind warnings.

"Last night I was leading, often solidly, in many key States, in almost all instances Democrat run & controlled. Then, one by one, they started to magically disappear as surprise ballot dumps were counted. VERY STRANGE, and the “pollsters” got it completely & historically wrong!" Trump wrote.

In another tweet, he said: "How come every time they count Mail-In ballot dumps they are so devastating in their percentage and power of destruction?"

As per the last update by CNN, Democratic nominee Joe Biden (227 electoral colleges) is ahead of Trump (213 electoral colleges).

Throughout much of the night in the US, President Trump was ahead by over 100,000 votes.

Milwaukee County is a major urban center and the biggest county in Wisconsin. It's also home to about 16% of the state’s population.

38-year-old Indian-American lawyer Jenifer Rajkumar has became the first South Asian woman to be elected to the New York State Assembly.

Jenifer Rajkumar, a Democrat, overcame her Republican rival Giovanni Perna.

Rajkumar is Stanford educated and a prominent immigrant rights advocate, she will represent 38th Assembly district of York City in the New York State Assembly. 38th assembly district includes Woodhaven, Ridgewood, Richmond Hill, Ozone Park and Glendale.

The New York State Assembly is the lower house of the New York state legislature, while the state Senate is the upper house.

The assembly consists of 150 seat, and assembly members serve two-year terms without term limits. Besides being a lawyer, Rajkumar also serves as professor at the City University of New York. She is also a former New York state government official.

Indian-origin  Democratic congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi scripted an easy victory over Preston Nelson as he was re-elected to the US House of Representatives for the third consecutive term on Wednesday.

He defeated his Libertarian Party opposition to return to the House for yet another term since being elected for the first time in 2016.

47-year-old Krishnamoorthi was born in New Delhi.

Targeting US President Donald Trump, he had tweeted on Wednesday morning: "As polls close and we wait for results to roll in, I want to remind everybody that official results take weeks – even in ordinary times! – and that nobody (including Pres. Trump) can change the final outcome just by declaring himself the winner tonight."

In the late hours of Tuesday, Trump declared that he had won reelection, adding that this year's vote was a fraud. The president said he would ask the Supreme Court to ensure the integrity of the election and prevent any ballots from coming after polling places are close.

Biden for President Campaign Manager Jen O’Malley Dillon said Trump's statement about the legitimacy of yet-to-be-counted ballots "was outrageous, unprecedented, and incorrect", reports BBC.

"It was outrageous because it is a naked effort to take away the democratic rights of American citizens," she was quoted as saying by BBC.

"It was unprecedented because never before in our history has a president of the United States sought to strip Americans of their voice in a national election," she said.

Micro-blogging site Twitter has called US President Donald Trump's tweet claiming the Democrats were stealing the country's election as "misleading", at a time the Republicans are trailing behind their challenger Joe Biden.

In the middle of the counting of votes, Trump tweeted, "We are up BIG, but they are trying to STEAL the Election. We will never let them do it. Votes cannot be cast after the Polls are closed!"
