Oxford Vaccine trials resume in UK days after pause over volunteer's illness

Pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca on Saturday resumed the trials of Covid-19 vaccine in the United Kingdom after a brief halt following a volunteer's illness, media reports said.

The trials of Oxford University-developed vaccine resumed after getting nod from British regulators.

"Clinical trials for the AstraZeneca Oxford coronavirus vaccine, AZD1222, have resumed in the UK following confirmation by the Medicines Health Regulatory Authority (MHRA) that it was safe to do so," the company's statement read as quoted by the media.

The Oxford Vaccine trial was on Wednesday halted after a suspected serious adverse reaction was seen in a participant in the United Kingdom.

AYUSH Minister Shripad Naik to be discharged from hospital

Union Minister of State for Defence and AYUSH, Shripad Naik, will be discharged from Manipal Hospital later on Saturday, according to a senior doctor of the hospital.

"We are discharging Shripad ji today by 1.30 to 2 pm," Dr Shekhar Salkar from Manipal Hospital said.

The union minister was admitted to the hospital on Aug 12 after he had tested positive for Covid-19.

India registered the biggest single-day spike as 97,570 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Health released data revealed on Saturday.

In the past 24 hours, 1201 deaths due to COVID-19 have been reported.

The death toll due to the highly infectious disease stands at 77472.

India registers over 96,000 new cases, 1209 deaths

India continued to register a massive daily rise in fresh COVID -19 cases as the country recorded over 96,000 new cases in the past 24 hours, officials said.

 With the registration of 96,551 new cases, India's COVID19 tally has now crossed the 45 lakh mark.

India recorded 1209 deaths in the past 24 hour, taking the death toll due to the disease to 76271.

India currently has 9,43,480 active cases and 35,42,664 discharged patients.

After DGCA's show-cause notice, Serum Institute pauses Covid-19 vaccine trial

Serum Institute of India (SII) on Thursday paused the trial of Covid-19 vaccine a day after it was served a show-cause notice by the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) for not informing the central drug regulator about the pause of study testing in other countries, media reports said.

In a setback for the medical fraternity, pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca has halted the phase 3 trial of the Oxford Vaccine against Covid-19.

Pausing the trial of Covishield vaccine, the Serum Institute said in a statement as quoted by the media, "We are reviewing the situation and pausing India trials till AstraZeneca restarts the trials. We are following Drug Controller General of India’s (DGCI) instructions and will not be able to comment further on trials."

India reports biggest daily spike in Covid-19 cases, adds over 95,000 infections in 24 hours

India, a country of 1.3 billion people, on Thursday reported the biggest daily spike by adding over 95,000 fresh infections in the last 24 hours.

95,735 new Covid-19 cases were reported from 36 Indian states and union territories, pushing the overall tally of infections to 44,65,864.

11,29,756 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

The Covid-19 toll has touched 75,062 as 1,172 patients succumbed to the virus in the last one day.

While 3,471,784 people have been discharged so far in the country, 9,19,018 patients are still under medical supervision.

Varanasi records 136 new cases, tally surges to 9,495

With 136 more people testing positive for the novel coronavirus, the total number of cases increased to 9,495 in this Uttar Pradesh district on Wednesday.

Official sources here said that out of the 2,012 test results obtained from BHU, 136 have tested positive.

Out of the total 9,495 cases, 7,498 have recovered completely while 1,835 are currently undergoing treatment.

So far, 162 patients have succumbed to the contagion in the district.

India reports nearly 90,000 Covid-19 cases in 24 hours, tally crosses 43 lakh

India, the second worst Covid-19-affected country in the world, on Wednesday reported close to 90,000 cases pushing the tally beyond 43 lakh.

In the last 24 hours, the country has added 89,706 taking the tally to 43,70,128.

The Covid toll has now touched 73,890 with 1,115 deaths in the last 24 hours.

The recovery rate has touched 77.32% as about 33 lakh Covid patients have recovered since the outbreak of the virus in late January in India.

AstraZeneca pauses Covid-19 vaccine trial after suspected adverse reaction seen in participant

Pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca has halted the Phase 3 study testing of a Covid-19 vaccine after a suspected serious adverse reaction was seen in a participant in the United Kingdom, media reports said.

A spokesperson for AstraZeneca, a frontrunner in the race for a Covid-19 vaccine, told Statnews in a statement that the company’s “standard review process triggered a pause to vaccination to allow review of safety data.” 

In a follow-up statement, AstraZeneca said it initiated the study hold. The nature of the adverse reaction and when it happened were not immediately known, though the participant is expected to recover, according to an individual familiar with the matter, reported Stat News.

Maharashtra: 1,603 coronavirus cases reported in Marathwada

At least 1,603 coronavirus infected patients were spotted across the eight districts of Marathwada region of Maharashtra during the past 24 hours.

While 38 corona positive patients succumbed in these districts during the same period, the authorities said on Tuesday.

440 new Coronavirus positive cases, 12 deaths reported in UT in last 24 hours

As many as 440 more persons were tested positive for Coronavirus taking the total number of active cases to 4,831 and 12 patients died in the Union Territory since the last 24 hours.

According to the COVID 19 status released by the health department here on Tuesday, 369 new cases were reported in Puducherry region, 26 in Karaikal region,42 in Yanam region and three in Mahe region.

As many as 446 persons were discharged during the last 24 hours. Of them, 357 were from Puducherry region, 49 from Karaikal region, 32 from Yanam region and 8 from Mahe region.

As many as 12 patients--10 in Puducherry region and two in Yanam region--succumbed to the virus.

Presently ,1498 patients are being treated in Puducherry region, 63 in Karaikal region,181 in Yanam region and 33 in Mahe region.

India records 75,809 new COVID-19 cases, 1133 new deaths recorded

India witnessed a small decrease in the number of daily COVID-19 cases as 75,809 fresh cases were registered in the past 24 hours.

The death toll due to the disease now stands at 72775 as 1133 new deaths were reported due to the highly infectious disease.

The number of active cases in the country now stands at 883697.

So far, 3323950 people have been discharged.

The exact case count is 27,002,224, according to the situation report.

India also became the country with the second highest number of COVID-19 patients, surpassing Brazil .

India has recorded over 42.04 lakh COVID-19 cases.

In the past 24 hours, 1016 deaths have been reported.

The total deaths due to the disease in the country now stands at 71642.

There are 882542 active cases at present.
