India registers record 24,879 cases, 487 more die

India's Covid-19 tally on Thursday climbed past 7.6 lakhs, after registering a record breaking rise of 24,879 fresh infections in the past 24 hours while 487 people lost their lives in the same period pushing the death toll to 21,129.

The total confirmed cases of the pandemic at present across the nation are 7,67,296, the health ministry update said.

However on the brighter side with the improving recovery rate, the number of cured and discharged cases have now reached 4,76,378 pan India so far.

The cases at present under active medical supervision in the country stand at 2,69,789, while the difference between the active cases and recoveries has been increasing on the positive side.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,07,40,832 samples have been tested for Covid as per the Indian Council of Medical Research till Wednesday.

Russian COVID-19 cases top 700,000

Russia registered 6,562 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking its total to 700,792, the country's coronavirus response center said in a statement Wednesday.

The death toll rose by 173 to 10,667, while 472,511 people have recovered, including 8,631 over the last 24 hours, said the statement.

Moscow, the country's worst-hit region, reported 621 newly-confirmed cases, taking its tally of infections to 226,795.

On Tuesday, 275,764 people were still under medical observation, while nearly 21.8 million tests have been conducted nationwide, Russia's consumer rights and human well-being watchdog said Wednesday in a separate statement.  

Indonesia reports 1,853 newly-confirmed COVID-19 cases, 50 new deaths

The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 1,853 within one day to 68,079, with the death toll adding by 50 to 3,359, Achmad Yurianto, a Health Ministry official, said at a press conference here on Wednesday.

According to him, 800 more people had been discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 31,585.

Within the past 24 hours, five provinces, namely North Sumatra, Jakarta, Central Java, East Java and South Sulawesi, recorded high numbers of cases, Yurianto said.
No more positive cases were found in seven provinces, namely Jambi, Riau, Bangka Belitung, West Sumatra, West Kalimantan, North Kalimantan and West Papua.

Yurianto called on the public to obey the implemented health protocols in a bid to avoid more COVID-19 infections.

Two women succumb to COVID-19, toll touches 145 in J&K

Two women- one from Shopian and another from Srinagar- died due to COVID-19 in Kashmir, taking the death toll due to the virus in the Union Territory of J&K to 145.

With these deaths, 109 people have lost their lives due to infection in 34 days, and 129 people in 49 day in J&K, where the COVID-19 positive cases have surpassed 9000-mark.

India adds 22,752 new Covid-19 cases, 482 deaths in 24 hours

India continued to witness a massive surge in Novel Coronavirus cases as 22,752 people in the country of 1.3 billion people were newly infected between Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, taking the overall Covid-19 tally to 7,42,417.

With new 482 deaths from the contagion in the last 24 hours, the toll climbed to 20,642.

As 4,56,831 Covid patients have been cured, the active cases in the vast country now stand at 2,64,944.

West Bengal to impose strict lockdown

West Bengal govt to enforce strict lockdown in all containment zones, including Affected & Buffer areas, across the state from 5 PM on Thursday (July 9) to contain the spread of Covid-19.

Haryana records 266 fresh cases, tally 17,770

Haryana registered 266 fresh cases on Tuesday, raising the infection tally to 17,770 in the state.

According to an official health bulletin, 75 have been reported from Gurugram district, 29 from Sonepat, 23 from Jhajjar, 21 from Panipat, 17 from Kurukshetra, 16 from Bhiwani, 15 from Palwal, 14 from Jind, 13 from Mahendergarh, 12 from Rohtak, ten each from Hisar and Rewari and one new case from Nuh and Panchkula districts.

Of the 276 fatalities till now, 101 deaths have been reported from Gurugram district, 95 from Faridabad, 20 from Sonepat, twelve from Rohtak, eight from Karnal, 7 each from Panipat and Hisar, 5 from Rewari, 4 each from Ambala, Jhajjar and Jind, 3 each from Bhiwani and Palwal, while 1 death each was reported from Nuh, Charkhi Dadri and Mahendergarh districts.

Gurugram district leads the number of infections in the state with 6133 confirmed cases, followed by Faridabad 4,648, Sonepat 1577, Rohtak 772, Bhiwani 514, Karnal 421, Rewari 396, Palwal 379, Ambala 375, Jhajjar 372, Mahendergarh 310, Hisar 292, Panipat 267, Nuh 255, Kurukshetra 173, Sirsa 138, Jind 133, Fatehabad 129, Panchkula 124, Yamunanagar 121, Kaithal 119, Charkhi Dadri 87 and 21 US-returnee Haryana citizens.

Of the 3,19,667 samples, 17,770 have tested positive and 2,96,440 negative, while the results of 5,457 samples are awaited. There are 4,101 active cases in the state.

A total of 13,393 patients, including 5,011 from Gurugram, 3,714 from Faridabad, 1025 from Sonepat, 533 from Rohtak, 377 from Bhiwani, 315 from Ambala, 273 from Palwal, 249 from Karnal, 244 from Jhajjar, 231 from Mahendergarh, 194 from Hisar, 190 from Nuh, 155 from Panipat, 141 from Rewari, 115 from Kurukshetra, 106 from Panchkula, 102 from Fatehabad, 97 from Sirsa, 95 from Yamunanagar, 91 from Jind, 55 from Kaithal, 45 from Charkhi Dadri and all 21 US returnees have been discharged from hospitals so far.

As many as 1,09,867 patients have been put under surveillance till date, of which 62,276 have completed their surveillance period and only 47,591 patients continue to be under surveillance.  

Maharashtra: Aurangabad reports third batch of COVID-19 cases

As many as 37 new COVID-19 cases were detected here on Tuesday, the third batch of patients to be found in quick succession in a span of few hours.

In Aurangabad, the scourge of Corona seems unrelenting as 77 patients were found in the morning followed by 80 others later while these new cases came to fore in the noon.

The 37 infected individuals, including 24 males and 13 females, are rural inhabitants.

With the new additions, a total of 194 cases have been reported in the day while the locals fear gloomy situation as the clock ticks further.

Now, this district's pandemic tally has swelled to 7,134.  

India's contagion tally crosses 7 lakh

India's COVID-19 tally on Tuesday surged past seven lakh-mark after the country recorded a sharp spike of 22252 infections in the past 24 hours.

According to the Union Health Ministry update, the confirmed cases presently stand at 719665 across the country.

Deaths due to the lethal virus in the country have crossed the 20 thousand-mark to 20160.

Cases under the active medical supervision are 259557, as per the government update, while, there is an improvement on the recoveries front, with total number of cured and discharged COVID patients has risen to 439948 so far.

12 new cases, tally surges to 576 in UP's Moradabad

With 12 more people testing positive for the novel coronavirus, taking the total number of cases to 576 in this Uttar Pradesh district, Chief Medical Officer said on Tuesday.

CMO Dr MC Garg here said that nine women, eight hailing from Kaji ki Sarai area and another residing in Govind Nagar are among the fresh cases.

So far, 27 people have succumbed to the infection in Moradabad.

India to begin human trials of COVAXIN next week

The human trials of India's first Covid-19 vaccine, COVAXIN, is expected to begin next week, media reports said.

COVAXIN, which has been developed by Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech International Limited (BBIL), will be tested on more than 1,100 people in phase 1 and 2 clinical trials.

Recording continuous high cases for the past several days, India on Sunday surpassed Russia to become the third nation in the world with the highest number of COVID-19 infected cases.

India is now only behind Brazil and the USA.

India's Covid-19 tally nears 7 lakhs with over 24,000 fresh cases in 24 hours

India, the country of 1.3 billion, on Monday reported over 24,000 fresh Novel Coronavirus cases taking the overall tally of infections close to seven lakhs.

In the last 24 hours between Sunday and Monday mornings, the country has reported 24,248 cases as the Covid tally touched 6,97,413.

With 425 new fatalities, the Covid toll touched 19,693.

4,24,433 of 6,97,413 have recovered so far from the contagion.

Kerala: 24 new COVID hotspots bring total to 153

Twenty four new places were declared as COVID hotspots in Kerala on Sunday taking total to 153 in the State.

Addressing a press conference at the Government Secretariat this evening, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said, "six places have been exempted from the hotspot list today."  

West Bengal records 895 fresh COVID-19 cases, 21 new deaths 

West Bengal witnessed a massive spike of 895 fresh COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, officials said.

The state also registered 21 new deaths due to the highly infectious disease.

There are 22,126 COVID-19 cases recorded in the state at present. It includes 6658 active cases.

With 545 people discharged from hospital, 14711 people have been released from medical facilities in the state so far.

The death toll due to the disease in the state now stands at 757.

The discharge rate is 66.48 percent.

COVID-19: 26 Ludhiana central jail inmates test positive

At least 26 prisoners here in the Central Jail were tested positive for novel coronavirus, official sources said on Sunday.

They said that all the inmates are asymptomatic and have now been kept in a separate barrack keeping in view the threat of getting contracted.  

India's COVID-19 recovery rate touches 60.77 percent

The recovery rate from COVID-19 disease in India now stands at 60.77 percent, officials said.

Collective and focused efforts for containment and management of COVID-19 by the Government of India along with the States/UTs have led to the number of recovered cases among COVID-19 patients rise to 4,09,082 as of today, read a government statement.

During the last 24 hours, a total of 14,856 COVID-19 patients have been cured.

Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah visit Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel COVID Hospital in Delhi

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh along with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Minister of Health & Family Welfare Harsh Vardhan visited 1,000-bedded with 250 intensive care units (ICU) beds Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel COVID Hospital here on Sunday.

The facility was built in a record time of 12 days by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) along with Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), the Armed Forces, Tata Sons and other industry players.

Rajnath Singh was also accompanied by Delhi Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal and Minister of State for Home Shri G Kishan Reddy.

Rajnagth Singh expressed satisfaction after visiting the hospital.

He appreciated the efforts of stakeholders in building this facility in such a short span of time.

The national capital is currently experiencing a surge in number of COVID-19 infections with an increasing number of patients requiring medical care.

Death toll in Bangladesh crosses 2000

The death toll due to COVID-19 in Bangladesh has touched 2000-mark, media reports said on Sunday.

Another 55 fatalities were registered in the 24 hours to 8am Sunday, bringing the body count to 2,052, according to the health directorate as quoted by bdnews24.

The tally of infections surged to 162,417 after 2,738 new cases were confirmed in the same period, DGHS Additional Director General Nasima Sultana was quoted as saying by the news portal.

The recovery count also rose to 72,625 after 1,904 more patients overcame the disease at home and in hospital care during that time, she said.

The recovery rate from the highly infectious disease in the country now stands at  44.72 percent.

The mortality rate is 1.26 percent.

West Bengal reports biggest single-day spike in Covid-19 cases and fatalities

In more worries for the eastern state of India, West Bengal on Saturday reported the biggest single-day spike in Covid-19 cases and fatalities as 743 people were infected with the deadly virus and 19 died from the contagion in the last 24 hours.

With the fresh cases, the state's overall Covid tally touched 21,231.

The toll now stands at 736.

14,116 of 21,231 patients have been discharged including 595 in the last 24 hours.

Jammu and Kashmir: 7 more people die due to COVID-19

The death toll due to COVID-19 has risen to 125 in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir with seven more people dying due to the virus since Friday evening.

The deceased include an 80-year-old man from Chattabal, two men from Baramulla, 55-year-old man from Budgam, 75-year-old man from Anantnag, 65-year-old man from Ganderbal and 65-year-old man from Kupwara.

With these deaths, 90 people have lost their lives due to infection in 30 days, and 111 people in 46 days in J&K, where the COVID-19 positive cases have crossed 8000-mark.

Jharkhand: 3 people die due to Coronavirus

In a single day the state has recorded its highest number of casualties as three people died due to Coronavirus on Saturday.

Out of these 3, two have died in RIMS while another one passed away in TMH Jamshedpur. Overall death caused due to Coronavirus in Jharkhand has now increased to 18.

Out of the two people who died in RIMS one is a male hailing from Khunti district while another is a female from Sahebganj. The old man hailing from Khunti had tested positive for Coronavirus on July 1, 2020.

In Jamshedpur, a 72-year old man has died due to Coronavirus.  

Rajasthan: Udaipur records 17 new cases of COVID-19, one death

This district in Rajasthan on Saturday recorded 17 new cases of COVID-19 and one death, taking the total number of cases in this City of Lakes to 771.

According to Chief Medical and Health Officer Dinesh Kharadi, the new cases include one of the four women arrested two days ago at Sukher Police station for prostitution under the IPTA Act.

Once the woman tested positive, the Deputy Superintendent, along with two Station House Officers and around two dozen policemen, have been sent into quarantine.

He further said that among the new cases, 11 were those who have had close contact with other infected people. Four of the cases have been detected in new areas and two are migrants.

Among the close contacts, three belong to Hiran Magri area in Sector 4, Adarsh Nagar, whereas four belong to Western Madri Industrial area. One case each belongs to Kherwada, Hotel Sagar Palace, Silver Spring Apartment, Navratan Complex and from Kummbhan Nagar, Sector 4.

Dr Kharadi said that on June 22, a 49-year-old man had come from Jaipur to Udaipur and stayed at a hotel. He had tested positive on July 1, after which he was admitted to ESI hospital, where he died on Friday night.

Additional Superintendent of Police Gopal Swaroop said the woman, arrested under the IPTA Act, had tested positive. He was produced before a Magistrate and granted bail. She was traced through her mobile phone and now efforts are on to trace the people, who had come in contact with her.  

Death toll mounts to 125 in J&K

The death toll due to COVID-19 has risen to 125 in the Union Territory of J&K with six more persons succumbing to the virus since Friday evening.

The victims are-- an 80-year-old man from Chattabal, 70-year-old man from Baramulla, 55-year-old man from Budgam, 75-year-old man from Anantnag, 65-year-old man from Ganderbal and 65-year-old man from Kupwara

With this, 89 people have lost their lives due to infection in 30 days, and 110 people in 46 day in J&K, where the COVID-19 positive cases have crossed 8000-mark.

Meghalaya: Four people test COVID positive as random testing begins

Four people on Saturday tested positive for COVID-19 in Meghalaya, as health authorities began conducting random testing from Byrnihat to Khanapara in Ri-Bhoi district bordering Assam.

"Four persons who were high risk contacts of a COVID-19 patient who is presently in Assam have tested positive for the same in Ri-Bhoi district," Chief Minister Conrad Sangma tweeted.

Risky and impossible: India's scientific community on ICMR's claim to produce Covid-19 vaccine by Aug 15

India's scientific community has termed the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)'s claim to produce the Covid-19 vaccine by Aug 15 as "risky" and "impossible", a media report said.

AIIMS director Randeep Guleria, who is the head of the clinical research group of the national task force on Covid, told The Indian Express, "It will be a very challenging and difficult task, considering that we have to look at both efficacy and safety of any vaccine that is introduced.

"Also, if we get the desired results, the other challenge is the process of mass production of the vaccine."

Virologist Shaheed Jameel, the chief executive of the Wellcome Trust-DBT Alliance that funds health research in India, said as quoted by the daily, "I fear the global scientific community would be laughing at us for this. It should not have happened. India is a serious player in science."

"Who is going to trust us if we behave like this? Who is going to believe us even if we indeed come up with a good vaccine tomorrow?… And I am appalled at the kind of language used in the letter. It is not a letter, it reads like a threat," he added.

India registers biggest single-day spike with new 22,771 Covid cases, toll 442 in 24 hours

India, the country of 1.3 billion people, on Saturday registered the biggest single-day spike in Covid-19 cases with new 22,771 infections besides reporting 442 deaths in the last 24 hours.

With over 22,000 cases, India's Covid tally now stands at 6,48,315 including 3,94,227 cured or discharged and 18,655 deaths.

The western state of Maharashtra, which still remains the worst-hit part of the country, has so far reported 1,92,990 cases including 1,04,687 cured or discharged and 8,376 deaths.

In terms of Covid figures, Maharashtra is followed by Tamil Nadu (1,02,721) and the national capital of Delhi (94,695).

India has entered into Unlock on Jul 1 with several relaxations in various socio-economic aspects of lives.

Germany records 422 new COVID-19 cases, total reaches 196,096: Robert Koch Institute

Germany has confirmed 422 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, with the total count reaching 196,096, the Robert Koch Institute said on Saturday.

The death toll has grown by seven to 9,010 people within the same period of time. Some 181,300 people have recovered since the start of the outbreak.

A day earlier, the country confirmed 446 new cases and nine fatalities.

The World Health Organization declared the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic on March 11. To date, more than 11 million people have been infected with the coronavirus worldwide, with over 524,000 fatalities, according to Johns Hopkins University.  

COVID-19: 123 new cases reported in Rajasthan

The number of Novel Coronavirus cases in Rajasthan reached 18,785 on Friday, as 123 more cases were registered in the state during the past 24 hours, while the death toll also climbed to 435 as five deaths were registered during the same time period.

As per the Health Department report released this morning, maximum 23 cases were detected at Sikar, while Jaipur reported 21, Kota 20, Dausa 17, Udaipur nine, Bikaner eight, Hanumangarh and Rajasamand six, Ajmer four, Barmer and Jhunjhunu two, one at Bhilwara, , Alwar one case, one at Nagaur, , one at Sawai Madhopur and one at Tonk.

Among the five who died, one belonged to Ajmer, two were from Dholpur, one from Dungarpur and one from Sirohi, this takes the death toll to 435.

Coronavirus claims more than 9,000 lives in Germany

The death toll of the country due the novel coronavirus surged to 9003 on Friday, the Robert Koch Institute said.

The Institute further said that the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country also rose to 195,674 with 446 new cases reported in the last 24 hours.

They further said that around 181,000 people have recovered since the outbreak.

A day earlier, the country confirmed 503 new cases and nine fatalities.

The World Health Organisation declared the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic on March 11.

So far more than 10.8 million people have been infected with the coronavirus worldwide, with over 520,000 fatalities, Johns Hopkins University said.  

Haryana reports 223 fresh COVID cases,tally 15,718

Haryana registered 223 fresh COVID-19 cases on Friday, taking the infection tally to 15,718 in the state.

According to an official health bulletin, 80 fresh cases have been reported from Gurugram, 46 from Sonepat, 38 from Rewari, 15 from Rohtak, 14 from Panipat, seven each from Palwal and Sirsa, five from Jhajjar, four from Nuh and one new case from Jind district.

Of the 251 fatalities till now, 96 deaths have been reported from Gurugram district, 83 from Faridabad, 18 from Sonepat, eight each from Rohtak and Karnal, 7 each from Panipat and Hisar, 5 from Rewari, 4 each from Jhajjar and Jind, 3 each from Bhiwani, Palwal and Ambala, while 1 death was reported from Charkhi Dadri and Mahendergarh districts.

Gurugram district leads the number of infections in the state with 5,649 confirmed cases, followed by Faridabad 4,028, Sonepat 1385, Rohtak 641, Bhiwani 441, Karnal 359, Ambala 344, Palwal 339, Rewari 352, Jhajjar 302, Mahendergarh 276, Hisar 250, Panipat 220, Nuh 211, Kurukshetra 133, Fatehabad 122, Panchkula 119, Sirsa 116, Jind 112, Kaithal 106, Yamunanagar 105, Charkhi Dadri 81 and 21 US-returnee Haryana citizens.

Of the 2,85,026 samples, 15,718 have tested positive and 2,63,629 negative, while the results of 5,665 samples are awaited. There are 4,407 active cases in the state.

A total of 11,060 patients, including 4,291 from Gurugram, 2,781 from Faridabad, 844 from Sonepat, 533 from Rohtak, 309 from Ambala, 252 from Palwal, 216 from Karnal, 200 from Jhajjar, 185 from Bhiwani, 184 from Mahendergarh, 181 from Hisar, 171 from Nuh, 133 from Panipat, 114 from Rewari, 104 from Kurukshetra, 95 from Yamunanagar, 92 from Fatehabad, 91 from Panchkula, 86 from Sirsa, 78 from Jind, 54 from Kaithal, 45 from Charkhi Dadri and all 21 US returnees have been discharged from hospitals so far.

India's Covid-19 tally surges past 6.2 lakhs, death toll at 18,213

India's Novel Coronavirus tally surged to 6,25,544 on Friday as it registered a record breaking single-day spike of 20,903 infections.

According to the health ministry, the death toll across the country has now reached 18,213 after 379 more people lost their battle to the virus.

However, with the improving recovery rate in the country, 3,79,892 cases have so far been cured and discharged, which are 1,52,453 more than that of the cases under active medical supervision in the country which stands at 2,27,439.

As per the Indian Council of Medical Research, so far 92,97,749 samples have been tested for the virus till Thursday.

17 ITBP jawans test nCov positive in HP's Kinnaur

Seventeen more jawans of Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) tested positive for novel coronavirus on Thursday, just a day after five of their fellows were found infected with the contagion in Himachal Pradesh's Kinnaur district.

Additional Chief Secretary Health and Nodal Officer of Covid-19 R D Dhiman said with the fresh infections, caseload increased to 30 in the tribal district, including 27 active cases.

Kinnaur Superintendent of Police S R Rana confirmed that samples of 59 jawans of ITBP were drawn on June 30, out of which five tested positive on Wednesday and 17 on Thursday.

The reports of 219 jawans were expected soon.

The infected, who returned from Srinagar recently, were kept at Jungi in institutional quarantine. They belong to 43-ITBP Battalion Jeori.

The entire Jungi Camp area of ITBP Kinnuar has been converted into a containment zone.

Thane: MLA tests Covid-19 positive

A 55-year-old woman MLA was tested positive for Covid-19 becoming the fourth legislator to contract the contagion in this district, informed her husband on Thursday.

Talking to the media, he further said that his wife visited several localities to help the distressed.

She was unwell for two days and subsequently tested positive on Wednesday. Now, she was under home quarantine, he added.

Commenting on the matter, Thane civic body spokesperson stated, "The Municipal Corporation isn't aware of the case else her testing would have been done privately. We don't have any record regarding the MLA getting infected."

Parbhani reports four new cases

Four new Covid-19 cases were detected here on Thursday hence taking this district's pandemic tally to 122, informed district administration.

Among the new patients, two were from the city limits while the remaining two come from Zari village in Parbhani taluka, it added.

Out of the total tally, 91 patients were cured while four others have died of the contagion till now.

Aurangabad reports 206 new cases; tally surges close to 6k

As many as 206 new COVID-19 cases were detected here on Thursday, pushing the district's pandemic tally closer to 6,000 mark, informed authorities.

These new cases are found a day after a record 217 persons were confirmed to be infected, with eight fatalities on Wednesday.

63 new cases reported in Puducherry

As many as 63 people were tested positive for the Novel Coronavirus here in the last 24 hours taking the total number of active cases to 459 on Thursday.

According to the Puducherry Health Department, 60 new cases were reported in the Puducherry region and three in Karaikal.

They said that 52 were admitted to the government medical college, eight to Jipmer and three to Karaikal government hospital.

Meanwhile, 30 patients were discharged.

5 more die, death toll rises to 109 in J&K

The death toll due to Covid-19 surged to 109 on Thursday, in the Union Territory of J&K as five more people died due to the virus.

With these deaths, 73 people have lost their lives due to infection in 28 days, and 94 people in 44 day in J&K, where the Covid-19 positive cases have surpassed 7500-mark.

India's Covid-19 tally zooms past 6 lakh, deaths 17,834

India's Coronavirus tally on Thursday shot past the six-lakh cases mark, after witnessing a sharp spike of 19,148 infections in the past 24 hours, the health ministry update said here.

According to the health ministry, the number of confirmed cases stand at 6,04,641.

The death toll due to the pandemic has also surged to 17,834 as 434 people lost their lives to the virus since Wednesday.

However on the brighter side, recoveries have witnessed improvement as 3,59,860 Covid patients have been cured and discharged so far, which is 1,32,913 more as compared to the present cases under active medical supervision across the country which stands at 2,26,947.

Till Wednesday, 90,56,173 samples have been tested for Coronavirus, the Indian Council of Medical Research data said.

Coronavirus: Karnataka High Court to go online

Faced with increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the State Capital, Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court Justice A S Okha has decided the Court to function online.

Registrar General Rajendra Badamikar, in the notice issued here on Wednesday, based on order of the Chief Justice, stated that the emergency cases will be conducted through video conference until the next order.

The order also specifies that only the principal seat (Bengaluru) will be conducting proceedings online. High Court benches at Dharwad and Kalaburagi will continue to function as usual.

Chief Justice Okha has stated that priority will be given to the disposal of Public Interest Litigations.

India's COVID-19 death toll touches 17400

India entered the second phase of 'unlock' on Wednesday as the country registered 18,653 fresh COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, officials said.

The total COVID-19 cases in the country now stands at 5,85,493.

The death toll due to the highly infectious disease touched 17400.

There are 220114 active COVID-19 cases in India at present.

So far, 347978 people have recovered from the disease.

Aamir Khan's staff test positive for Covid-19

Indian actor Aamir Khan has informed on social media that some of his staff members have tested positive for the Covid-19 pandemic.

Issuing a statement on micro-blogging site Twitter, Aamir said, "This is to inform you that some of my staff have tested positive. They were immediately quarantined, and BMC officials were very prompt and efficient in taking them to a medical facility.

"I would like to thank the BMC for taking such good care of them, and for fumigating and sterilising the entire society."

Aamir said the rest of the people have tested negative for the Novel Coronavirus.

The Bollywood superstar will now get her mother tested for the contagion.

"Right now I am taking my mother to get her tested. She is the last person in the loop. Please pray that she is negative," he added.

PM Modi to address nation today as India adds over 18,500 Covid-19 cases

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Tuesday address 1.3 billion people of his country on a day India reported 18,522 positive Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours.

Modi will address the nation at 4 pm.

With the addition of 18,522 cases, India's Covid tally touched 5,66,840.

India reported 418 deaths between Monday and Tuesday mornings taking the Covid toll to 16,893.

While there are 2,15,125 active cases in India right now, 3,34,821 people have recovered from the disease.

India's COVID-19 death toll touches 16893

India reported 418 deaths due to COVID-19 in the past 24 hours as the death toll due to the highly infectious disease in the country now stands at 16893, revealed official data released on Tuesday.

With  18,522 new cases reported, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country now stands at 5,66,840.

There are 215125 active cases in India right now.

334821 people have recovered from the disease.

Meanwhile, Indian PM Narendra Modi will address the nation at 4 pm.

Coronavirus: Nashik reports over 4,000 positive cases

With addition of 182 new corona positive cases in Nashik in a single day on Monday, the district's tally surged to 4,043.

Of total 527 swab samples investigated in last 24 hours, 345 were negative and 182 tested positive.

Among the fresh cases, 123 were from Nashik city, 46 from Nashik Rural and 13 from Malegaon, a report from the district administration stated.

Meanwhile, 9 positive patients died of Covid-19 disease across the district, including 5 in Nashik city, 3 in Nashik Rural and 1 in Malegaon, pushing the toll to 234.

Among the deceased were two elderly people from Pandhurli and Thangaon in the Sinnar taluka.

COVID-19: WHO team to visit China soon for origin tracing

Amid COVID-19 'spreading agressively,' the World Health Organization has said it is sending a team to China next week to know more about origin of the virus.
"WHO has been saying that knowing the source of virus is very-very important. We can fight the virus better when we know everything about the virus, including how it started. We will be sending a team next week to China to prepare for that. We hope that will lead into understanding how the virus started and what we can do for the future to prepare." said WHO Director General, Dr Tedros Ghebreyesus.

Responding to a question during regular press briefing on COVID-19, on Monday, he said that the virus is spreading aggressively and instead of waiting for a vaccine or therapeutics we must suppress the virus with tools at hand like contact tracing, social distancing etc. We have already surpassed the ten million cases and have a million deaths, he said, adding : "This could have been prevented through the tools we have at hand. Vaccines and therapeutics ...should be in addition to the maximum use of tools we have at hand."

WHO chief noted that this virus can be suppressed if "the governments are serious about the things they have to do" and if the community can do it's share. While doing our best to find a vaccine, our advice from WHO is - we should do everything using the tools we have at hand and many countries have shown that this virus can be suppressed and controlled using the tools at hand, he said.

Referring to resurgence of cases in some countries as they start to re-open their economies and societies, Dr Tedros said most people remain susceptible and the virus still has a lot of room to move. "The hard reality is : this is not even close to being over. Although many countries have made some progress, globally the pandemic is actually speeding up," he added.  

COVID-19 tears through California prison, nearly 2,600 inmates test  positive

Nearly 2,600 inmates tested positive for COVID-19 in the state of California's prison system including more than 1,000 at San Quentin, Governor Gavin Newsom told reporters.

"California Correctional System has 2,589 individuals that have tested positive," Newsom said on Monday. "In San Quentin we currently have 1,011 individual inmates that have tested positive."

The governor noted that the entire correctional system has around 113,000 inmates.

The state, which already released roughly 3,500 prisoners earlier in the pandemic to decompress the overcrowded system, is taking into account medical conditions when evaluating others for potential release.

Newsom announced on Sunday that bars in the state are being closed amid a rise in the number of coronavirus cases. The governor reminded California residents they are required to wear face masks in public spaces, pointing to the fact that many people are seen with faces uncovered.  

Suspend trains, flights from five worst Covid-hit states to Bengal: Mamata requests Centre

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday requested the central government to suspend the train and flight services from five worst Covid-affected parts of the country to her state, in a bid to stem the further spread of the pandemic Novel Coronavirus.

Mamata told a press conference at state headquarters Nabanna, "The chief secretary (Rajiva Sinha) has sent a letter to stop trains coming from the five worst-affected states to West Bengal in a bid to curb the spread of the disease."

The CM has also asked the Centre to limit the domestic flights from other states- except the five most Covid-affected ones- to once a week.

"With regards to domestic flights, we are requesting (Centre) to run planes within the states but limit to once per week from states other than the five worst-hit ones. It is not possible to monitor all flights coming to the state as Civil Aviation didn't adopt any mechanism. It is a kind of burden for us," she said.

nCoV enters remote Lahaul Spiti district of HP

Showing no sign of abating, Covid-19 has made its way to the remotest Lahaul Spiti district which was so far unaffected by the pandemic, a senior official said here on Monday.

Deputy Commissioner Lahaul Spiti, Mr KK Saroch, said that a worker belonging to Bihar tested positive for nCoV today. The 26-yr-old youth is a construction worker of Border Road Organisation, a construction wing of Indian Army.

He became first patient of Lahaul Spiti district which was sofar remained unaffected from the pandemic as district is landlocked. The worker, securing a valid permit, had returned to the state from Harayan on Jun 22 as he was engaged for bridge construction work at Patseo.

The DM said contacts of the victim are being traced. With the first case in Lahaul Spiti, now all the one dozen districts of this hill are infested by the deadly virus. With addition of one more case the total number of nCoV increased to 917 in the state, including 378 active cases.

The most populated district Kangra is worst affected having total umber of 262 cases, Hamirpur 238, Una 104, Solan 98, Chamba 51, Bilaspur 42 cases, , Shimla 40, Sirmaur 38 , Mandi 28, Kinnuar eight , Kullu five and Lahaul Spiti one.

The Covid infection trends indicated that virus is prevalent in those district which are exposed to other states and join borders and connectivity beside the migration of people recently. Like Kinnuar, Lahaul Spiti, Mandi and Shimla are less affected.

Visakhapatnam Steel Plant employee test positive for Covid-19

An employee working in Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL), the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP), tested positive for Covide-19 here on Monday.
This is the first positive case reported from VSP.

The employee, working an Assistant Manager in SMS-2( Steel Melt Shop-2) , who returned from his hometown in Rajasthan via Delhi on June 4 by flight, was under institutional quarantine at GITAM Hospital in the city from June 4 to 12 and released on June 13 after tested negative, according to steel plant officials here.
On advice, he was in home quarantine for 7-days and reported for duty in the night shift on June 20.

On June 22, the employee, who had some intermittent cough, went on leave and got himself tested at King George Hospital (KGH).

Maharashtra extends COVID-19 lockdown till July 31

The Maharashtra government on Monday announced extension of lockdown to avoid spread of COVID-19 till July 31.

Maharashtra remains one of the worst hit states in the state.

With over 19,000 fresh Novel Coronavirus reported in the last 24 hours, India's Covid-19 tally on Monday neared 5.5 lakh.

The country of 1.3 billion people reported 19,459 cases taking the overall tally to 5,48,318.

With new 380 fatalities between Sunday and Monday mornings, the toll touched 16,475.

The three most-affected states continue to be Maharashtra (1,64,626), Delhi (83,077) and Tamil Nadu (82,275).

Amid the spike in Covid cases, all special trains in Tamil Nadu have been cancelled till Jul 15.

Delhi to create India's first plasma bank for Covid-19 treatment: Arvind Kejriwal

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday announced his government will create India's first plasma bank to treat people infected with the pandemic Novel Coronavirus or Covid-19.

"Plasma bank will be created in Delhi. This will be the country's first plasma bank. I urge all people who were cured of Covid-19 to donate their plasmas to save the lives of others," said Kejriwal.

The CM said the cured patients will be allowed to donate their plasmas in non-Covid hospitals.

Nagaland: Total lockdown in Peren district from Jun 30, state's Covid-19 tally surges to 434

In view of a sharp spike in Covid-19 positive cases, the Nagaland government has imposed a total lockdown in Peren district from Jun 30 to Jul 5.

Peren district Deputy Commissioner Sentiwapang Aier on Sunday issued an order and stated that the total lockdown is necessitated as stringent precautions to prevent any unlikely incident that may result in the local or community transmission and the risk to public health and safety of the citizens of Peren.

In the order copy, the Peren district Deputy Commissioner stated that, movement of public shall be strictly prohibited and private vehicles movement is banned, all business, shops and trade activities shall remain closed, while all social, political, religious gathering and functions are also prohibited during the total lockdown period.

On the other hand, the Mon district administration has extended the total lockdown in the district till Jul 5.

Special trains cancelled in Tamil Nadu

Amid the spike in Covid cases, all special trains in Tamil Nadu have been cancelled till Jul 15.

Assam's Covid-19 tally surges to 7,492 with 327 new cases, toll rises to 11

With 327 new positive cases for Covid-19, Assam's tally for the deadly virus has surged to 7,492.

Out of the new cases, 195 cases have been reported from the city of Guwahati.

On the other hand, one Covid-19 patient died at a government run hospital in Guwahati on Friday.

The death toll has now increased to 11.
