Gandhi family embodies secularism: Azad

New Delhi, Apr 16 (IBNS) Amid an ongoing political spat between Priyanka Gandhi and Varun Gandhi, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad on Wednesday said the entire Gandhi family embodies secularism.

"Pryianka has the blood of Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. She is a part and parcel of the Gandhi family that embodies secularism and socialism, unity and integrity," said Azad.

Meanwhile, the Congress on Wednesday lodged a written complaint with the Election Commission (EC) against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy for calling party supremo Sonia Gandhi's daughter Priyanka Gandhi a drunk.

"I have submitted a written complaint to the Election Commission against Swamy and the BJP. The Congress wants a First Information Report (FIR) to be lodged against him and his party," Congress leader Kapil Sibal told media.

Several Congress party workers on Tuesday protested outside Swamy's residence over the issue.

Swamy reportedly said that Priyanka would have been thrashed if she contested the Lok Sabha polls from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh since she drank too much.

Praising BJP leader Varun Gandhi in a tweet, he further slammed his estranged family and wrote: "Good luck to Varun. One Nehru whose blood is 100 percent Hindustaniyat. No wonder Booze and Buddhu jealous."

This comes after Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi rebuked her estranged cousin brother Varun Gandhi and urged him to choose the right path.

"Varun ia a member of the Gandhi family but he is on wrong path," she said while addressing a rally in Sultanpur on Saturday.

Varun Gandhi, however, hit back with a statement saying he would like to debate issues of concern like unemployment instead of personalized attacks.
